What do you use to seal the two halves of the heater control valve? I finally got the engine running and I have a leak where the two halves go together.

Thanks

Which One ?

Which valve ? Picture? 1st, you have to take it apart to seal it which is a really, really bad idea. The internals are single use & super fragile. Best to go shopping. Moss has promised (again) the later 780-411 for us in March (don't hold yer breadth). The earlier repop is available UK venders.

The new valve I bought had the fitting loose and epoxy not set up. I pulled it apart and used JB Weld Steel stick to re-epoxy it.....

If you're referring to this style of valve then you use a cone shaped rubber seal. You might be able to find an O ring that fits.

I have found that the leak you described is an inherent weakness in these type valves...often right out of the box. On one occasion I took a pair of pliers and crunched down the on the small tabs that are used to keep the two halves together. Tightened things up a bit and after a couple years it is still holding.

Yes, this is the one where the two parts come together with the mounting bracket (stock heater control valve for mk1). I don't remember ever seeing a rubber cone, I asked Rick about it one day and IIRC he said to use a silicone sealant.

Actually, I'm not sure if it's leaking at that joint or if the valve is itself leaking. I'll have to look this weekend. If they leak new out of the box, does anyone make a good one?

MK1a Heater Valve

I just removed this incorrect heater valve from my MK1a during my radiator, heater core upgrade. It works backwards. Open when dash says off.
Can anyone identify it?

heater valve

The valve looks to be a Honda item from the 80's. This was widely used on Sunbeams due to the lack of original valves and still is being used by many owners.
