Jigsaw Puzzle

I know you guys like puzzles so I thought I would see how you get on with this one.

I have these 4 pieces of underlay, almost certainly from the inder dash area but I can't figure out where they fit.

I'd like to use them again and preferably in the right places.

Any ideas?
Anyone out there with an original car with these still in place?

Many Thanks.

I have something similar behind the heater motor but mine seem more square. The holes are for the wire harness.

I have pictures of

almost everything else... figures... will find some hints, but others may have better images.

But, top right goes over drivers side bulkhead, with angle mating to left side. bottom right goes on pass side. and the hole aligns with RHD steering column IIRC. The other two...

The top looks of similar make, but the bottom material looks different.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Anyone more ideas?

Anyone fancy buggering up their back getting some pics for me? :)

Thanks

Question...

What does the reverse side of the piece in the lower left look like? I've a suspicion that it should be turned over and that we are looking at the side to be glued, rather than the exposed side.

And sorry, I dont have the pics on this pc, back in the camera. will try later.

edit: and if i'm correct, i'd venture to guess that piece is drivers side and hole is over steering column, under the bulkhead.

Hi DD,

I'll take a photo of the other sides tomorrow and post it up. It's a bit late to do it now.

Many Thanks.

Derek mentioned something about RHD steering column area. I believe your car is a RHD, so it is quite possible some of the pieces you have are specific to that configuration. Thus what we see on our LHD cars may look a bit different.

I agree with Cobrakidz on the shape of the piece by our blower motor which almost looks like one of your pieces. The notch in that piece clears the grommet for the bonnet release rod on my car. That might help you confirm the fitment on your car.

Part of one of the pieces looks somewhat like what is left behind the false floor on my passenger side with a hole for the power cable coming from the battery and going into the engine bay. Not sure what you chaps have on that side.

I noticed on my car that there is this type of insulation material between my steering column and the door side of the footwell. It is on both the vertical face of the bulkhead and folds at the bottom of the bulkhead and goes forward, glued along the bulkhead bottom side. You might want to trial fit one of your pieces in your area and see if it fits there.

That's all I have, hope there is something helpful in it.:)

Best regards, Gene

Thanks for the info Gene.
Yes my car is RHD.

The electrics set up on RHD car as far as the loom and the battery cable is the same.

I will have to trial fit the pieces and see what I can come up with but their positions aren't as obvious as I would have hoped having tried once before.

I like the idea of the slot being for the bonnet release.

Lousy pics...but Felt Insulation under dash

at least you can find some evidence that I'm not entirely off my rocker...

Your piece on the top right, is glued to the left hand side (I'll not use driver's side now ;-) under dash crossmember / bulkhead under the dash. You'll see it with the first pic (Ti.LH.insul.sml). In my image, the portion that is hanging down should be glued up under the bulkhead. The 'slit' is there to prevent the material from bunching as it folds and adheres under that crossmember.

The other pieces are harder for me. I know the lower right piece goes directly on the firewall (under the very top of the false floor area for LHD cars), and leads up to near top of firewall. The hole did not really line up with anything under there from my view. The harness did not go through the hole, but rather to the edge of the insulation. (pic added) These pics (Ti.RH.insul.sml) are very difficult to understand, sorry. But, the wide portion is arranged at the bottom / down, with flat (parallel) to floor, and holed narrower portion at top.

Can also see Gary's mention of the square piece in heater blower location.

Unfortunately, I just can't locate pictures of the other pads. Will keep searching. That 4th piece is a unique animal in my book. Not the same weave. Neat find / keeper.

I failed to remove all of these pieces prior to media blast. I had not expected them to 'shoot' under the dash. I also failed to ask them not to remove factory insulation from rear shelf area. Both big things that I blew with poor communication. Learning mistakes...

A bit astonished you've not received a better response for the request for 'original under dash picture' from another member here...

Many thanks for the reply and info DD.

It's nice to know that a couple of the pieces now have a home.
I just wish I had taken some pics myself before I took them off.

Speaking of pics, that's a great website you have there. There's a few pics in there that will help me with some other parts' positions.

I love the homemade 289 badges. I assume they were made by your Dad and will be returning to the car.

Patchworks

Here's a pic of an original survivor piece before we start covering it all up.

Thanks for the pic Randy but unfortunately I think that is the only piece I didn't remove on my rust hunt.

If you have any more pics though, that would be great.

Thanks

More photo documentation

Yup; we're getting into another one in a few weeks and I should note to document the insulation mapping a bit better.

Still Waiting

Did you take any pics of the insulation Randy?

Thanks.

The shops are in overbooked zoo mode at the moment and that particular project is still parked in it's container. I DO NOT see light at the end of the tunnel . . . . .who knew retirement could be such fun!
