LAT 22 tach

Does anyone actually have an original LAT 22 tach? If so I would appreciate clarification of a few details.

As I look at the pic of one of these on the TigersUnited.com site it looks like:

A. The needle is white and of a different (chrome center) style.
B. The chrome bezel has straight sides on the outer edge.
C. There is a "red ruby" button for an ignition light.

Am I seeing this correctly?

I have read somewhere that this is really just a MG tach calibrated for 8 cylinder motors.

Does the LAT 22 version have the "Ignition" lettering under the "ruby" or did they remove/blank that out? I suspect that the light in not operational in either case. True?

FYI, I am making a replica of sorts out of a later version of a MG tach that works better with electronic ignition and the dial face is virtually identical to what the LAT 22 looks like. I learned how to do this from some Triumph websites that describe how you can insert a resister in the circuit to make one built for a 4 cylinder motor work for an 8 cylinder motor. The Triumph tach electronics are exactly the same as what was used in a Smiths RVC tach for a MG, just a little different printed circuit board layout.

Since presumably the RVC is more accurate, or at least can be tuned across the rpm range, the spacing between the various rpm markings are the same across the range. And the dial face has the correct caution line and red line segments just like the LAT 22. (The stock RVI tach spreads things out the higher you go, presumably to compensate for the way the electronics work.) Otherwise, things look interestingly close.

Any help with the above details would be appreciated.

Thanks, Gene
