Leaky heater valve

I spent days cleaning and rebuilding the original heater valve only to find it leaks. I wonder if I am missing a gasket. It leaks where the two halves join all around which leads me to believe there was at one time some sort of gasket that had completely deteriorated. It was bypassed by the po for obvious reasons.

Any help would be appreciated. I know there was an ebay seller in the UK that was building them new. Can't seem to find him now.

Early one

Or Late? Either are available now are the usual vendors, or a wonderful gate valve ball valve is avail from the local hardware store:D

Early one

Gary has posted a pic of the later valve a M1A valve. Gary and I have the later valve. I had looked at my parts SIII Alpine and I think it does have a gasket in there. The pic I took of the engine compartment is too grainy. I looked on Moss Motors and Victoria British and do not see it. S.S catalog shows a bad picture too. Many Brit cars have the same early valve. The red manual shows B382000001 and on have the one pictured. I will snap a fresh pic if I can near the car.

Gary's Source

I emailed Robert Kirk and his valve is now $100 delivered.
I also noted HJIMPORTS on ebay and there's are $95 delivered.

Both really expensive for a heater valve. Luckily the car I am working on is the early one.

Regards

On a related note...

My Mk1 didn't have a valve, so I bought a new valve, which came with an O-ring, and found a used valve to salvage the outlet fitting and bracket. When assembling it the valve housing cracked. I assumed that it was supposed to be tightened until it seated fully, but I talked to Curt at Classic Sunbeams (where I got the valve) and he said that it's supposed to have a gap. This makes no sense to me. Can anyone confirm how it goes together? Maybe the provided O-ring is too big?
