Hello

I am trying to locate a former member of CAT. His name is Ray Collier and according to a 1981 membership roster, he lived in Fresno, CA. I believe Mr. Collier is the 2nd owner of my Tiger and I am hoping to contact him. If you know him and have any contact information please let me know.

Thanks

Google stalking

Had pretty good luck screening prospective tenants . Also use another service. It casts a wide net on the net so to speak but may get some leads.
I hate to say it but I always check the obituaries too ...

Found Him

Thanks to Warren and Norm. Your educated guess on the whereabouts of the former member I was looking for was correct. I wrote him a letter and he responded via email, stating that he was in fact the owner of Tiger 0033.

Unfortunately, he did not remember much about his experience but he did Send along a couple of old photos. This was when the car was painted white. Original color I’d Carnival Red.

Now to find the first owner...R. White.

Mr Collier told me he painted the car white so The license plate pictured is from when He owned the car. Could a plate transfer with a car in CA? I do not think that is likely since the car was not running when Mr. Collier bought it around 1980.

A personalized plate could have transferred with the car upon sale but the seller would have had to have authorized it. In California, vanity plates stay with the person, not the car unless arrangements are made.

Just mailed off my INF70 form to California DMV. We’ll see if any owners are listed for this plate before Mr. Collier.

First it takes four to six weeks, if you have everything right. Then you have to know or search by different versions of the VIN

For example. Add the year in front of the VIN then with and without the LRXFE. As I recall it's 6 bucks and if they need seven they send you the hole mess back. I have gotten the dreaded record not found a bunch. As late as 95 they allowed old inactive cars to be dropped off computer records. Later they learned that doing that gave a pass to those that had back fees due so they added more storage. It's worth a shot and try not to get discouraged.

Heard Back From CA

Just to close out this thread...today I heard back from CA DMV. I actually received a telephone call from a very nice lady at the DMV. She called to tell me they could not locate the registration in their files. She then said she could search by VIN and we tried a couple different variations, all with no luck.

She asked when the car was last registered in CA. When I said the mid eighties, she said that it had likely been purged from the system.

So no luck in tracking down the first owner, but kudos to the nice lady from the CA DMV.

Dmv inf 70

My experience with CA DMV INF 70 requests for info before the late 80's has been futile. Having worked in the IT/database world for 35+ years, since the MS DOS 2.1 and DBase II days, and having gone through several OS/database/software upgrades over the decades, sometimes a decision is made "we can't migrate that old data, we've got it on microfiche, right? And who's going to want to look at that useless old data anyway!"

And even though the form says they will look at microfilm, I'm not so sure those state workers do, or what tools they have available to them. Searching microfilm is not fun, and unless they've scanned the microfilm into a searchable database or document, almost impossible.

But worth a shot. And at least you got a callback from someone trying to help.
