Luggage Platform

Hi All,

At last weekends Fairfield Concours, while the judges were looking at my trunk I could see a dispariging look on one of the judge's faces when he looked at the underside of the luggage platform. He did not say anything and I know they were not Tiger experts...but I got the feeling he was unimpressed.

On my Tiger it is bare wood. The soft trim covers the top and is stapled underneath with most of the underneath showing the bare wood.

Is this correct? If not, what is?

Thanks, Jim

Hello Jim
Your platform is 100% correct as per your description. Usually over the years battery acid fumes will delaminate the plywood over the battery area and also the spare tire will leave nice black marks all over that bare plywood!
Lots of patina................Eric

Patina ??

In agreement, the false boot floor was at best a quicky mask. With even minimum use, it soon took on that "left in the barn saddled & wounded" appearance (patina). If you lost points for that, it was because of ignorance . . . . .

I guess the other thing to do is have a display sheet or somethign similar with period road test pics.. they usually show some of those details that other might think are home made... heck imagine if they looked at the factory welds under the car!

More profound 2 cents

Quote: "factory welds under the car". The very first time our family Tiger was on a lift, the old mech (he was 81 then) made the opinioned comment that the welding had been done by "Sneezy" of Snow White fame. If you've had the opportunity to see original works skill, it's pretty easy to conjure up a visual of the wee dwarf recoiling with the weld stick in hand . . . . .

Thanks to all. I thought my set up was correct, but I figured I would just check with those more knowledgeable.

As for the judging...it was all over quite quickly. No points or anything...at least nothing that was shared back with the owner. It was all pretty subjective. Although a bit anti-climactic after all the preparation, I can understand since they have over a 100 cars to judge in a couple of hours.
