Mk II at Russo and Steel Monterey

I love the spin....

"This car represents the 267th of a total of 536 cars produced in 1967. It was delivered in Oregon, and had only 2 long term owners. The 2nd Oregon owner purchased the car in 1982......and the car remained with him until 2014."

So are we trying to imply the car is a 2 owner car...
Or was a 2 long term owner car till 2014... and how many owners since.....????

Also I doubt it's in its original "British racing green " ... Perhaps it's original 86 Forrest Green....

auction

I heard many talking about the" British Racing Green " Alpine next to us at the Dayton show on Saturday. It's one of three painted by Doug with #86 green in the last few years. All three are dead on to the original green. Calling it BRG is a very common thing.

Yes... And it's incorrect . .. especially when you are meant to be a high end auction house trying to establish how "Correct" the car is ... Same thing when in other auctions they talk about the "frame off restoration" ...

Owners

I'll take 6 or 8 caring owners to two or three D.P.O's any day. All it takes is one sawzall one torch or a couple bad repairs and paint jobs.

I think many will agree the Forest Green is not as nice as it's cousin B.R.G.

Ya really think a Nube MK2 buyer will buy a B.R.G. described and painted car then be upset that it's a prettier hue, or get 1 or 2 points off in a show where the judges know the difference.

Thanks goodness they do such a bad job in their descriptions so we got a steady supply of things to have a swing at:cool:

I hope Chuck's car does well " the red one" it's a pretty nice one. It'd be interesting to see what happens with a color other than correct vin tag color affects price. A local member has a 39 car that's white and for sale, and Chuck's is a Polar White 108 turned Porsche Red...

Consumer's Opinions

Paint shading seems to confound people. When I show them a large sample of #86 in the shop under shiny lights, "It's beautiful". In true daylight, they generally give it a thumb's down and opt for a darker Jag-ish green. The pale olive drab hidden in ole' #86 just puts them off. Real BRG from the early days doesn't thrill the new crowd either . . . . . just sayin'

The rootes colours in period seemed to be slightly muddy , like the contrast and saturation levels were reduced the greens, blues and reds 86, 58, 39 all have sort of dirty cloudy tinge to them in direct sunlight.... But that's how they were ( says the guy with a 2003 maserati metallic silver paint job... But I ain't claiming originality! )

MK11

A lot of people are color blind so what you see may not be what others see. I kinda like Doug's #86 green.

We go to Russo and Steele every year, good cars for a lot less than the other auctions. I also have press passes to RM this year too, hopefully something good there to drool over.

Mmmm, and so much nicer with the addition of a drivers side spring insulator...none of this low rider rubbish!

Goodness that garage is messy, I think it's time for a tidy up...:D
