Mk2 Headlight Rims

I currently have a set of Mk2 headlight rims for sale on ebay, and had an enquiry as to how to adapt them to an earlier car with the clip on rims. As most know, the Mk2 rims are screw on. Does anybody have experience with this? I would think that the easiest way is to drill a hole into the inside metal rings, but haven't studied it. I believe the clip on rims have two rivet points, if memory serves, so new holes would be required, and the centre one filled. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Most alpines and tigers used the screw on type rings, the clip rings were used breifly in later production SV alpines and some mkia. There is a tab that can be fitted off the base of the retaining rim that the screw secures to.

Clips

Tell the lucky winner you can supply a set of clips for 39.99 or free if price goes over 500 bucks and send em a 5 buck pair from Sunbeam Specialties.:)

Thanks Warren. I did check Sunbeam Specialties and they do have a screw in clip for $3.65. I'll relay the info. I'm always amazed at the info a lot of guys in the Club store in those noggins....lol

I'm thinking of bidding on these, but first quick question for the group... Is is possible to take a set like this and chrome them?
Cheers, -Kevin

I have a perfect set of chromed mk2 rims, I'd trade someone straight across

for a perfect pair of mk2 rims that are painted.

Bob couldn't you just strip the chrome rims and paint them?

I have some painted ones and also a nos one in factory primer, but you should be able to remove the chrome from yours

mk2 bezels

Hi Michael, I've moved my 'for trade' post to the 'for sale' section.

I figured a trade would save me the cost (and some risk according to the plater) of having my rims stripped and also the cost to the new owner of having to get a set chromed.

I bought these years ago as backups for my mk2.

I had a set of MkII rings on the Cleo car and I had them chrome plated--they turned out nice. I can try and find a pic if needed Kevin.

First of all, sorry for the thread hijack. But yes, I'd love to see a few pics if you have them! Did they start out as painted units that you polished smoothe mefore caroming?
Thanks! -Kevin

Kevin--that was 13 years ago so I can't swear if they were painted or pot metal when I got them, but I do know I had them chromed. Sorry for the so so picture, this was the early days of digital cameras. :)
