MKII at Auctions America this weekend

Oops

The trouble may be a lack of information . Some body shop could have easily not bothered to repair a mangled inner fender brace on one side.

If you add the identity problems with home brew tags hard to say.

I didn't see the trunk the rear 1/2 seat area or any mention of trans and rear end numbers . If it was my car I'd list all the positives and let the hammer fall, but I also would have had several pints and beat out a better reproduction tag in true English form ;)

Super Bird

Hi Jim,

Nope, the "Superbird" is alive and well and TACed. A real MK2 with a "interesting" nose job...ha.

Retract

Man I need one of those phone tablets. I noted picture the drivers side looks flat enough to be a Tiger inner fender brace.

Looking at my senior size screen I realize I am not looking at a doppelganger of my blue car which had a Alpine inner fender grafted on to it.

I guess I should say its a nice collection of parts or that it's a fake but I'd like to see if the seat panel has a battery box or what .

Yeah I know, off character for me to look at any glass as half full:) but this one looks like 1/5 full at best.

Fender Braces

Is it just me or do those welded fender brace mounting brackets appear to be from an Alpine?

I emailed the auction organizers with our concerns. The response -

"The car arrived last night and we inspected it this afternoon. It has been withdrawn from the sale. I have owned 5 MKll tigers and agree that it has been converted from an Alpine.

+1 for the Tiger community.

Me too

I emailed them too. Talk about obvious with the tags. It would be nice to have the attitude of innocent until proven guilty. Good thing they at least show picture of the tags unlike many other auction sites.

Maybe they will auction the grille and other MK2 bits that may be on car:)

Inspection is Important

While there were lots of items seen in the photos that should cause a potential buyer to wonder about the authenticity of the car, it still could have been a Tiger tub. Maybe the front end was destroyed in an accident and was replaced with a front clip from an Alpine.

But his shows the importance of making sure that a car a buyer is considering has been TAC inspected and certified before laying out hard-earned money. A suggested rule of thumb to follow: if no TAC certification, don't pay more than you would for an Alger in that same condition. (Even if it has a Mk II grill.)

Duke - I also sent him an email Friday afternoon - I have always had high regard for R-M, so their reputation is intact with me...

WOW....the Tiger community was all over this. Looks like that car will have to be sold in England where all the fakes go and they don't care.

I think that's just a very vocal minority of Brits who don't care about people hiding the identity of rebodies.... But they are VERY vocal.

Opinion

Going to the S.T.O.C. and reading probably the worlds longest Tiger discussion thread will show what Micheal is talking about.
Key word reshelling.

Actually I really don't think it's worth reading or promoting that thread.

Well

My point was to say, lots of Brit's accept the TAC program and the vastly greater majority do care.

Sure there are some really negative opinions there in that thread but also the rebuttals of a leading Rootes archive English gent the moderator what a tough job .
