MK 2 for sale

check out Hemmings. there is a red MK 2 for sale for $225000. they say it's car #3.

Not sure if this is Kim's car, its very nice.. But can't claim "correct down to the smallest detail" when as wingnut securing air cleaner, home modified bonnet (hood) thats a BIG change from correct... There are other small details I can see too. Interestingly enough the photos seem to show the wheel arch trim on the left side of car but not on the right.

Its a stunning car, not sure why you wouldn't just use a lat bonnet if you are going for stock. As for price.. Last year a few mkii tigers breached the 200k barrier a couple at auction and a couple at private sale after... But market has come back a bit.. I suspect it all was a rush of blood on the 2 mkii at Monterey that suddenly made people rush them.... Then things got a bit more rational.

I do believe Michael is correct about the identity of this car and although a few "details" might be incorrect, it is in near flawless condition.

I saw it down at the Pinehurst Concours last month, where it received a runner-up award in its class. It was in the Orphan Car class which had all these one of a kind cars.

No comment on the price, but if a buyer is looking for a MkII, this is one of the best...IMHO.

Oh?

Wonder what is meant by car #3. The Mk II pre-production vehicles had the last three numbers in their VIN numbers as 001 and 002. Production Mk II Vin numbers then started with 100. There was no 003. Is this car have its VIN number ending in 100? As I recall, there were two cars on the Rootes ledger on the same day for the first regular production of Mk IIs. Maybe this is one of those two, but there is no way to determine which of those two were finished first on that day. Entry order in the ledgers probably does not mean anything. So if that is what is meant, I guess there is another #3 car running around somewhere.

The filming of the next MAD Max is already done... Be a long time for another sequel

still off topic...

Can't stop thinking of 'Beetlejuice when I see that Sunbeam 'Gasser' ...:eek: :------

To answer about the hood and not being stock, it has the original mk2 hood as well with no blemishes in the sheetmetal and painted to the same level as the rest of the car. As for the modified hood you are correct for it not being correct for the lat hood. However I can assure you its far from homebuilt and was really built to be from the 60s period. All of it is metal and was made from an original hood skin with blocking the scoop from the hood skin so it was not welded on and one piece. Again tho its customer preference.

I have those original "Tiger" rubber floor mats in my car too. Who knows what they are worth......$1,000,000????
