MKII Grill

Nice Repo, But Stainless??

This looks like a nice reproduction Mk II grill, but I have to wonder why go through all that effort but using stainless steel instead of the original aluminum. Yeah, the stainless is more bling and maybe Rootes should have uses stainless steel originally, but they didn't. I wonder how many of these repo grills they made. Seems like the effort to make multiple copies is not a whole lot more than the effort to set up to make just one or two.

This looks a lot better than some of the repos I have seen, where there was no bow to the shape or the pieces of aluminum were welded together with the wed spots discoloring the aluminum on the front side of the grill.

We've looked at replication costs, but the man hours & tooling are a bit steep. It would take 17 firm orders at the above sales price to make it all work just one time. I applaud the man's efforts & hope he does a few more.
At a mere 5% per annum from the original cost, one would amortize to over $4K 47 years later! Whereas the handy dandy inflation calculator finds only $700.00 - ish.

:)Stainless verses Aluminum=Supply & Demand (Aluminum reproduction on e-bay now we will see if it sells for over $2000.00:eek:

Most often when we post to form a eBay link or pic 90 days later they are gone. Please share your screen shot capture mode as while the pics are easy to capture a cut n paste does not look as nice as your posting.

It was funny though in his ad copy he says this will look great on your MK1A or MK1 or something similar. I get a regular ribbing on how my car would look better with the right headlight MK1A headlight rings from my MK2 buddies, still makes me chuckle.

The seller has made a few of them.. if you had it on your watch list last time.. he has listed another one.. so ebay tells you the seller has relisted it..

A winning US bidder might have to get someone to collect it while over for Tiger 50 events...?

They don't look half bad on a MK1A either... http://catmbr.org/VB_forum/showthread.php?t=133

BTW, the MKII in those pics without a grill is just about finished being restored and will be having the grill installed...
