Looks Right

The Mk II's trunk platform strap has a simple hook that hooks into the small gap between the rib and the underside of the trunk lid, right at the "X". There is no footman's loop mounted on the underside of the trunk, like the Mk 1s and Mk 1As.

The speculation is that the footman's loop was omitted to save a few pennies (pence?) per car.

mk2 platform strap

Hi Gilles, I've attached a couple of pictures of the strap that came on the repro mk2 platform I bought from SS years ago.

I don't know how authentic a recreation this is but as you can see the end that hooks on to the underside of the truck lid (and scratched the paint) is flat bent metal.

If you want measurements or other shots let me know.

Also, I was told by Norm M. and other experts that all the mk2s came with the bigger washer bottle.

Do I have it backwards?

Is the bent wire hook thing used on the mk2?

Ok, now I'm being advised from another mk2 owner that indeed the wire hook end is the correct mk2 part, I am considering resigning from the CAT board in utter disgrace.

In my defense the quality of the pictures I posted was very high.

And as I copy/paste them into my 'reference' folders, I will duly note them as ' MK1/1A ' :D

Thanks for posting them...

There must be some chemical contained in turkey meat that causes confusion.

Maybe it was the Honey Baked Ham that did it, I sometimes lack self control.

Well I didn't get no turkey and I'm still confused.

Venice532 your license plate lamp bracket is definitely confused. It's installed upside down. Wires should come in from underneath.

license plate bracket

Hi Justin, I'm using the CAT license plate bracket in lieu of the stock plate light bracket.

I'm pretty sure I have that on right but my credibility is currently at a low point.

Bob J.

OK that's different but I think you can still turn the lamp bracket over and put lamps on under side. Would look cleaner . . . or maybe it wouldn't with light wires exposed.

if the bumpers are set at the proper distance from the body by use of the factory spacers between the body and the bumper bracket and you use the CAT license bracket the lights can be turned down with the wires tucked under the bumper and they are not seen. it's tough to see the lights. weren't the rear license plate brackets a dealer installed item?

MKII trunk

Just bought from Rick SS the right clip for My MKII , for the MKII water bottle holder , got the drawing back today , tooling is ready , will know more at the end of this week . For the MKII owner without the holder , or with a MKII holder with a MKIA bottle , we will probably do also a MKII Holder that can hold a MKIA bottle without been loose .

All comments appreciated !!!!!!!!

Hi David,

My TAC'd Mark II's trunk platform strap has the hook you are referring to, but it does not hook into the "small gap between the rib and the underside of the trunk lid, right at the "X." Rather, it hooks into a small hole (maybe 1/8" diameter) that is located near the forward edge of that "X" point.

Will post a photo if required. I believe the hole was original and intended as the spot to attach the hook on the end of the strap (Mark II's only, IIR).

MKII Trunk

Here a picture of the hole you mention , Also a picture of the supposedly original MKII hook , I Do not recall who tell me that, but I was told that it hook into the small gap between the rib and the underside of the trunk lid, right at the "X . I do not see if the picture of the hook his the MKII hook it could fit the hole.
