Betwen MKI MK1A and MKII water bottle and overflow tank

Merci
All help appreciated !!!!

The mkii water bottle and bracket are different from 1/1a the bottle is shorter and fatter and the bracket larger radius and the bottle has a Tudor decal without any Rootes embossed logo

The Tudor decal bottle was also used on late Mk1a cars. My serial ends in 2449 and it uses that bottle.

mkll water bottle and overflow tank

On my mkll the expansion tank is brass, with an embossed fill level tab inside when the radiator cap is removed. I don't know if all tanks had this or if the ones I've seen have had them removed for one reason or another. A friends expansion tank is steel as he wanted to polish his brass tank only to find that it wasn't, so back to black. The larger Tudor washer bottle I have is the same height as the others but a wider diameter. This comes with a plastic nipple instead of the brass ones on the mkl's and mkla's. There is another smaller bracket included with the larger bottle which allows the bottle to be moved over from the tapered inner fender, next to the radiator and alternator, as it just wouldn't fit otherwise. I hope this helps. :)

Here is a picture of the bottle and bracket in my Mk1a

Bottle diameter is 3 5/8 inches .

Height is a hair under 8.5 inches

The fitting on top is brass not plastic. Other than that I don't see a difference.

Bottom has molded in raised letters
"Manufactured by Tudor Accessories
Hayes. Middlesex
Made in England"

also has "No 2"

Fill to

Lee has that little Chinga in side the expansion tank. We have been guessing that impatient Tiger owners banged that little plate out as it impedes the filling somewhat. Mine is brass and on close inspection has extrusion marks on it that have later developed stress fractures. Most guys take em apart and solder from the inside. Maybe that could be when the "fill to plate," went bye bye at the radiator shop

I read somewhere the tank was made by a plumbing supplies vendor, no it wasn't Wackypedia

MKII water bottle

Here the dimension I have

7 inches height about 3 3/4 diameter

under the bottle there a number 6602.

Its a plastic nipple !!!

Can anyone confirm that ok

Now anyone know how to remove the black paint without damaging the plastic bottle

Thanks

Thought I'd through in a mention of a couple bottles on ebay that are very similar. these came under a search for <british washer bottle> There are several variations and the sizes are about right with or without the Tudor name. Sorry couldn't get all the images to transfer...
Also I'd be interested if any one has a picture of the bracket that bolts between the bottle holder and the welded piece on the inner fender well.

So this is a Mk1a and Mk2 expansion tank starting sometime in the late Mk1a run or ??? Another mystery that needs to be solved or it is already in the BON and I don't have one. Here is mine. Lee

I just checked mine & yes indeed there is the same numbers 6602 embossed on the bottom. Funny thing, the reason I still have my original bottle is because it was out of the car for about three decades. I just recently removed one of those old alarm-sirens that I had in that same spot. While at SUNI, someone with a straight face asked me if the bottle / bracket were for sale. I was a little stunned until he finally cracked a smile & told me that they like other MK-2 trim are expensive. Who knew?
