I have a possibility to buy , complete engine 289 : intake, carb ,water pump , tranny , and rear end from a tiger MKII wrecked around 1986 , ( Numbers on engine, tranny are not far from my own MKII , engine was never open and ran OK when put in his MKIA in 2010 , the 260 is back in the MKIA since . Just looking for a fair value ' to give my friend, who unfortunetely his very ill .
Do not want to buy them cheap by just offer him fair value . Just want to keep the package in my garage.

This his certainly not to build another car.

Nothing really special about that engine and tranny. Just a five bolt with a toploader. Thousands just like it in Mustangs and Falcons. $500 is my thought.
 
So what is it

If it is a MK2 drive train the wide eared top loader and wide ratio gearing and a six bolt 289 with that fancy oil cooler is a nice set up.

Seen transmissions for 500 also 750 also 1750 but the last has been for sale for months and includes some other drive line bits, he is on Bakersfield Ca. Craigslist now.

There is a wanted ad for a rear end on Craigslist San Diego now. Stock or with posi ?

Too many ?'s to give you a accurate guesstimate

Any offer he accepts from you is "fair value" to him.

I know its bittersweet, but he'll be happy knowing you're looking out for his bits.

The price range comments are all valid, as pricing is all over the place.

But...

Recent sales here in CA for
used motor, clutch, transmission: $750-1000.
Short blocks used: $300~500
Short blocks 'new': $1000.
Long Blocks 'restored' 260/289: $2995 and 3995 (Ebay... caveat emptor)
Bellhousings 'used': $95
Flywheel 'used': $95
Toploaders 'used' : $300~600
Toploaders 'restored': $1000-1200
Tiger rear ends 'used': $200-600
Posi 'used': $200-300
Posi 'restored' $400 (only here)-$600
Intakes 'used': $100-400
Carbs 'used': $50-100
Carbs 'rebuilt': $300-350

Its up to you and your friend. Knowing all were functional and you'd plan to use them... $1200-1500, maybe a couple hundred more. It really does depend on condition and what exactly is there. Parting and selling... pay him or his recipient of choice more if they sell for more than expected.
