I was just checking the entrant list for this years event and I don't see any Tigers entered. Is anyone planning to race this year?

No Tigers

Floyd,

As you discovered, there are no Tigers in any of the classes at the Monterey Reunion races for 2016. The folks who have raced their Tigers in the past have been told that the organizers did not have room for them this year.

Guess we will have to watch and see what happens next year.

There are so many cars that want to race and only so many classes. A friend has sat out a few years because of this, a little variety is good I guess.

The tigers class is running, but guess they want less variety, must be loaded with stangs vette and xke. Maybe they don't want the orphans beating the cool kids.

It's not a lot of consolation but Tom Sakai will be racing his "Love Bug" Alpine while Dan Walters hops into Tom's Trans Am.

Is this the series II that appeared in the race seen of the Herbie movie? Did the car have period race history other than the mock race ? Any current pictures?

Love bug Alpine

Yes, the Love Bug Alpine has been found and recently verified.:)

It was driven by Charlie Willis.

It is an S1 with a fair amount of race history in the mid to late '60s and into the '70s.

It came with a log book with 9 events listed, starting in 1972, the start of the log books, at least in the SCCA.

BUT, looking at the group of cars the Alpine will run with, AND the limited prep the car is getting, RACE is a bit of a strong word...

At the time the entries closed, it was expected the Tigers would run there also.

So seeing we would be there anyway, why not run the Alpine as well.....

Now it looks like it may be the ONLY Sunbeam at the event.

I'd assume Steve Silverstein would know some of the history of its early SCCA career. Rare for a si to be running so late. What engine will it run at reunion? 1494 or 1592 series ii spec?

Assume it's running to FP spec .. series I originally ran GP iirc. Then they got bumped into fp then perhaps ep in 63 but was in fp in 64 when they were running series iv alpines
