More E bay wonders

But It Has A Nice Paint Job

Looks like more like just a Sunbeam shell. It appears there is not much of the frame or floor panels left. But they did rivet on what appears to be a lubrication tag.

Their word choice, I believe, was very precise. Except in the title, they are very careful to avoid calling this car a Tiger in the text. In the text, they always refer to it as a Sunbeam. What do you call a shop-made vehicle that has doors, fenders, hood, and trunk from a Sunbeam, but nothing else?

I know the person that built this and he has never claimed it to be a Tiger, now since he sold the car I've heard people claim its a Tiger.
Car is built very well but not as fast as I thought it should be. We were in Tulsa a few yrs back and he just couldn't get it down the track.
I was in the 9s and the best I remember it ran in the 12s

Tag

It has a B395...,LRX. On the vin tag. W/E it is it has a Alpine V tag one of @19,000 cars
I was not fair the auctions pic is slightly higher than our CAT club limit I looked at it after posting.
The big give away is the completely rectangle with no corner cut.
I wanted to call this the Mother of all Algers or an Alger on steroids.
Very nicely done though.

Saw this car at auction in Kissimmee a couple of years ago. Noticed then how far forward the rack sits from the centerline of the steering arm pivots. Couldn't get anybody to talk to me then. Wonder what the ackerman angle is like.

Car has done the rounds a few times in the past few years. No doubting the finishing of the car is very nice.. as to why you want to do that.. well that's another thing. There used to be videos of it on Youtube as well.

If Jerry is correct and says its only a 12 second car... WHY do that! you can have a stock looking tiger that will run 12's and handle, ride and be more practical. Each to their own.. but its lineage is far from clear

Frame off? Off his rocker is more like it...

I keep seeing Tiger and Alpine ads touting "frame off restoration"... I guess I'm not as knowledgeable as the guy who wrote this ad, could someone tell me how you accomplish that on a Tiger? Hammer and chisel?

Before I restored B9471705, I was actually thinking about building a car like this, because I thought the 351W based 427 stroker motor would be BITCHEN, and I didn't want to ruin a real Tiger to accomplish it. After much reflection, I decided:
1. It would cost almost as much as restoring a real Tiger, and at the end of the day I'd still have an Alger with much less resale value.
2. The 331 stroker that bolted right in the Tiger probably has more power than I know what to do with.
3. I didn't want to be driving around a car that I'd have to say "it's not a real Tiger" to everyone who looked at it.

Only 63 RWHP more then my craigs list sourced, garage built 347. He should have over 500 RWHP.

The Tiger side badges should be removed. Get custom "Cheata" or something to replace. I think it is a sweet looking car. I bet I could get it under 12. Jerry - when I get back from Korea, expect several calls as I want my Tiger in the solid 11's. 386 RWHP and 2500 lbs. should be able to do that. The fox body Mustangs with more weight and less HP do it all day long.

It was only that day in Tulsa that he was having problems, im sure it had been faster at least I would hope so.
Good luck on your quest for the 11s then it will be 10s then for some real money the 9s.

It must be a Rodney Dangerfield type of car. Favorite line from the ad:

"gets you instant respect just for having the guts to drive it on public roads"

The driver makes the difference

The driver makes a big difference. I used to drag race my original Tiger at Carlsbad Raceway frequently on Saturday nights in the '80's. I usually got in the mid to low 14's, and once I cracked a 13.99. I had a built 289 5 bolt, 302 crank, with about 375 Hp at the flywheel, which was a considerable acchievement in those days... 'course it had about 14 to 1 and you could still buy 98 octane gas at Union 76 then. I thought I was a really good driver with those times, since I usually beat all the Mustangs, Camaros, and quite a few of the Corvettes.
One night Lou Anderson (SCCA national champ at the time) came out to watch, and I asked if he wanted to try my car down the strip. He looked like he wasn't even trying, since he didn't burn rubber for 200 feet through 1st and 2nd when he took off, I figured he was babying the car since it wasn't his... aand... He got a 12.74! Best time the car every had while I owned it. I didn't feel like such a good driver after that.... Maybe the 427 Alger owner is at my skill level.

Balancing act

Maybe you have seen this before but it makes me laugh every time...

Like the old reasons you don't need a seat belt, "Why I will be thrown clear from the accident."

"it has a hard top I will be protected in a roll over," I just made that up....:)
