Hello to all,
If this has already been noted elsewhere, my apologies. I have been very impressed with the first 2 parts of a 5 part presentation on Automotive History, so I wanted to mention it here in case anyone else is interested.
Many local members may know of the “ADM”, Automobile Driving Museum, and the club had a visit there in the past. The museum is hosting a 5 part series on the history of the Automobile. I have been able to attend the first 2 parts and the third segment will be this Saturday, Dec 5 at 1 PM.
I have been impressed with the first 2 parts. The material covered has been very detailed and well presented with a fast pace, good energy, and a slide show that includes some pics from the period being discussed. The presentations are narrated by Jim Crabtree, who appears to have detailed information and background on the topic.
Many of us will have heard some or even much of the details and facts presented, but one of the advantages of these presentations, at least for me, has been the ability of Mr. Crabtree to weave all of this into the social and economic structure of the times. This helps to explain a bit more of the “why” of something happening, and creates a better historical perspective.
For example, the first 2 segments have mentioned such items as these:
How did the first Cadillac cars come to be Ford cars with Leland engines.
How did the Depression generate the extravagant cars of the 1930s?
How did the desire for increased horsepower lead to the electric starter?
The next section this Saturday is to cover essentially the post war period of the 1950s & 1960s.
The Museum operates as a non-profit, with free admission, but they do “suggest” a donation of $10.
