Mt JET-HOT non-warranty warranty experience.

I just got off the phone with Brian, the rep at JET-HOT.
We have been emailing back and forth concerning a warranty issue with my headers with no results. I finally spoke with him on the phone.
Years ago I purchased a new pair of Hooker Super Comp headers for my truck. The headers were test fit and sent to JET-HOT for their inside and outside "JET-HOT Sterling" coating process. That coating failed and needed to be redone very quickly. I contacted them and my headers were sent back for warranty. At that time their tech suggested I try their new JET-HOT 2000 coating saying it is more durable and better suited to towing duty. I opted for that as the warranty recoat. I received a bill for shipping and upgrade recoat with my warranty work. I paid and installed the headers on my truck. That "better" coating also began to rust, then flake, then really come off. Finally I tried to get the headers redone under warranty...again.
The warranty card I have says, "guaranteed for life against rust through".
This is where this post becomes relevant. According to Brian the "Original" JET-HOT went bankrupt and was purchased two times ago.

The new JET-HOT will not recognize the old JET-HOT warranty. I am out of luck concerning my warranty claim according to the new JET-HOT.
One of the big reasons I chose to use the coating, both inside and out, was the warranty. The coating failed, the warranty failed, and I am now out a considerable amount of money while needing new headers. I am not happy with this outcome in the least.

I am not certain when this purchase took place but if you have JET-HOT coated anything the new JET-HOT may not recognize your warranty.

I'm No Lawyer

While I'm no lawyer, I always thought that when one company bought another, the buyer assumed the liabilities of the buyee. I guess I am wrong. I did go to Jet-Hot's website, and they talk about Jet-Hot getting started in the 80's. That implies continuity and there is nothing that I saw that talked about how the new Jet-Hot is not the same as the old Jet-Hot company.

However, I did notice on their warranty page (http://www.jet-hot.com/lifetime-warranty/) that they say that a warranted part can be recoated under their "lifetime" warranty only once. So much for a lifetime warranty! Maybe you have a copy of the warranty from when you first had your headers coated.

Maybe there are other companies out there with products just as good (if not better) that are more willing to stand behind their warranties.

Sorry you are getting hosed.

And Again

We've had like issues with several suppliers over the decades. Sometimes, it's just not that easy to recognize a business model designed by P.T. Barnum.

I have a friend going through the same type of issue now, he bought a business and kept the same name, he has a customer looking for warranty work and it is looking like he might be liable since he did not change the name . He was told even if you change 1 letter or add a hyphen it will help in the future. Like to see where these go from here...........

My results so far.

I have been in contact with JET-HOT and they are now ignoring me.
I have been polite, cordial, understanding and easy to deal with. Since the last phone call...funny how he deals with off putting answers via the phone but all other correspondences are vie email...I have been ignored. No email responses, no phone responses, nothing. I guess they filed me under spam and are now done with me.
The part I really don't understand is the future customer relationship.
This is not the only part I have had coated by JET-HOT and I am far from being done when it comes to playing with cars and parts repairs.
The decision to simply shove me out the door seems very narrow sighted when the overall cost is considered. I'll bet they can get my headers for a smaller price than I can and I bet the materials cost for coating them is quite a bit less than I payed as a regular customer. Where these headers will cost me about $800-$1000 to replace I'll bet they could be all done for around $500 or less.
As a side note comparison I had an MSD box that I accidentally ruined when I dropped a jumper cable across it and it arced. I called MSD and told them I ruined the box and how I did it. They said send it in and we will repair it at no charge????!!!!! I again said I ruined it myself just to be certain they knew. No matter, MSD repaired my box for nothing. I do NOT expect that kind of service when the fault is all mine but they chose to keep a customer that day. I have since purchase many other things from MSD. All of which still work perfectly.

Times they are achangin'

I'm always sorry to hear when someone / some item is failing to live up to expectations and these stories are only on the increase.. of course.

YMMV, but the audi guys (including older high level race teams) have been using these folks for a number of high temp applications for some time; I've no direct personal use, but have not heard any negative feedback to date.

I'd have used them, but sending parts transcontinental wasn't considered very economical... except when one considers the "do it right, once" factor.

Will see how my powder coating holds up, it was on recommendation from nearer me on the SF Peninsula, but if you're East of me, this is just another option for what it's worth..
