New Tiger owner with unusual dash pad

Hi all,

First post! I'm the lucky buyer of Alan Garton's '66. The interior is completely apart and I'm trying to figure out where everything goes and what's missing. From what I understand, the dash is supposed to have cardboard and vinyl-wrapped metal pieces riveted to it under the dash pad. I don't seem to have those, and the pad itself is not like what I've seen on other Tigers. Has anyone seen one like this? The vinyl is similar to that on other interior panels, with stitched areas and edging and thin padding. Are the cardboard and metal pieces available anywhere? I could probably make something similar but have no idea what they even look like. Thanks for any and all help, so glad to be here! Special thanks to Rick (TigerBlue) for bringing me on board!

Your dash is a home made version.

The original and repro are a vac formed foam with the vinyl bonded to it.

As for the metal finishing prices, they are on each side where the vertical face of the body is exposed under the a post of the windshield and between the dash. These are profiled Thun aluminium with vinyl covering that are rivetted to the area. Under the soffit of the dash there were millboard ( card) with similar vinyl texture that was riveted to the underside that covered that part of the body and also covers/retains the vinyl of the dash pad.

Don't think anyone sells the covering trims, but they are quite straight forward to make. As for the dash pad... sunbeam specialities sells them , but read the install threads on the forum to get advice on process, glue to use and where to trim.

Also welcome to the community

Jon,
Congrats on the Tiger score and welcome! Rick at Sunbeam Specialties will probably have most of what you need. Might be worth a few hour visit and perhaps ask a few questions!
Cheers! -Kevin

Practically neighbors

Welcome. I'm down in San Mateo, will look forward to meeting and sharing notes.

As to the dash, I think you'll find a section on my site informative for what was on there originally.

http://www.lifeofti.com/tear-down.html scroll down to "Nov 6. Dash Removal".

Pretty good shots of the Al pieces and locations. Shocking in that no matter how many pictures I seemed to take, I always seem to be missing the one I NEED

One note; they were covered in a canvas like material, applied with adhesive and it was difficult for me to find identical material. So I reused them. Closest I could find was wide black out / gaffers tape, which would look just fine in my opinion as well. Note the other little black tape covering two other seams about 1/3 of the way inboard from each side as well. Further note that likely no one will ever see those. :)

I have a section on how I replaced dash as well, Somewhere...

Green car?

My local

Auto and upholstery supply sells a trunk and door card style millboard. Not sure why it's called that as it's a rigid compressed paper product with little water resistance.
Welcome aboard.

Thanks all! I'm grateful to have this resource and folks who are so willing to share their experiences. I plan a large purchase at Sunbeam Specialties at some point. DD I'm glad to hear you're so close! You have a great site there, I'll check it out it. Would love to get together and talk Tigers sometime. The car was originally white, now black which I plan to stay with but it does need paint. Here's an overall shot. Thanks again!

Great looking car and congrats on your purchase. Hope to see you in the area some time.

Thanks Cobrakidz! Nice to know there are other owners in the area. I'm really struggling with how this thing goes back together and it would be great to come check out another Tiger in person if anyone's up for it. I'll bring beer!

You're welcome to come down and look over my Tiger. It's a 45k original car that has never been apart.

I'm located in Morgan Hill which looks to be around 60 miles away from you.

Thanks! I'm heading down to San Jose with my nephew on Sunday for "Wekfest" so might be able to come by then if that works for you. I'll send a PM.
