Not so new oil change tool

In the boating world most motors do not have drain plugs. A career mechanic buddy had been using his boat vaccum pump which is inserted thru did stick and sucks pan dry in minutes. Tiger is easy but the rest of the fleet not so much.

I have resisted using pumps for years cause I like to do hot oil changes and let pan drio for an hour or so. Am I being over zealous in the belief that the Lil sucker tube can't get as much sludge from bottom of pan.

Yeah I know suck it then jack up and remove drain plug and see what comes out.

My buddy says a lot of oil change places are using vaccum system now as well.
Of course I have never paid for a oil change to be done for me.

tool

the pump should work as far as getting the used oil out of the engine. the other thing to think about if you have a lot of sludge in the engine is what is wrong with the engine. if you're seeing sludge you have a lot of contaminants in the engine and possibly other engine problems.

oil pump

Warren been using a pump to change oil in my boat for years and I always put the muffs on and bring the motor up to temp first. Kevin

Got it

Kevin, I was not questioning if an engine should be warmed or not. It was silly in my 20's looking for the drain plug on a marine engine.

I have always used better filters and oils, well until a BMW cycle group posted a size comparison of filter paper in the leading brands and I found out FRAM had the nearly the smallest paper area when spread out.

The Honda's nearly gotta go up as their filters are hidden and a PITA to get at. The Fords are easy with a capital E.

I was just wondering if anyone used the vaccum pumps on their cars and seen what may remain after a dip stick pull.

May be I'll try it on the F250 it sits high and would be easy to get to the drain plug and see what's left. Kevin

Thanks Kevin

The neighbors frown on the hillbilly in South Torrance with the full garage changing oil in the street:rolleyes:

Nobody washes their own cars here either,

Maybe I should add Tiger speak. The Tiger with it'd 7 at race oil pan would be okay with a vaccum draw as it gets change by calendar and not miles. With its remote mount there is no crawling under it required.
