In other threads I have detailed the genesis of the housing.
1st. off I paid a small fortune at the time, yes 700 was not that much when the recent comps were 1000.
Please consider the facts completely before judging
eBay sales may or may not be comps on anything. On eBay items readily available at Sunbeam Specialties and thru CAT parts sell for well in excess of their retail price. You can pay 900 dollars or more for a beat up cracked original steering wheel or if you know better get a restored one for 600 ish from Ken in Colorado. A fun side bar here. I bought a part on eBay of a matching right and left B post cap. I wanted em both but the price went too high. Seller F's up and sends wrong cap to me and wrong cap to other buyer, and his phone number and say's you guys work it out. I call the guy and he says he is hobby car part speculator and does not even have a Sunbeam and to send him his part first WTH,, I could go on for pages about the thieves markets that eBay is, but back o/t
We put the word out on the grapevine and with the club at a meeting and with guys who paid 1500 for a fiberglass mold, those in production of their alloy or other machined part. There was only one 1800 impulse eBay in the last several months with an average price of 800 to 900 . Everyone that was practical to contact was contacted.
Alan, with all due respect if we had no number guys would stamp their own, if we put a sticker on it would be removed. If we stamped it in the product they would pick and file it out or pay the chrome shop more to copper it over. Guys don't want a f/g one as more than one car has had a carb fire they have the 69024 number which is the most popular number.
There has been as much as possible put on line, the grapevine, and in meetings.
If someone has a cache of these housings and the urban legend of a warehouse in England with parts galore is true we will know soon.
