I've been very happy with SuperPro urethane bushings from Australia. They used to be available in two different durometer hardnesses, one for street and one for racing. Both worked great. I use the "hard" on our race Tiger. In fact we also have them on our black beater Tiger that we use for road trips. On it we use two of the hard bushing (outside) and two of the soft (inside).
Also, with our 1" CrMo bar on that Tiger we were very careful about the precision of the fit. We adjusted it so that almost zero light would show when tested between the bar and the front of the lower control arms. We probably have over highway 15,000 miles using stock retaining clips and have not broken one so far. I have a strong suspicion that breaking clips is a symptom of incorrect bends resulting in a poorly fit bar, regardless of the diameter.
