Car is being primed and I was wondering if there are current paint codes with todays manufactures or matching colors for other car brands. My car has a paint code of 92 Arctic White and I just want to make certain the shop gets it right.

It seems everyone points to Jan Servaites of the Sunbeam Alpine club for help with these questions. I have just sent him an inquiry myself. Supposedly he has made up color chips from some master set of Rootes data. They are painted on CD's which you can take to your supplier of choice. They can use their spectrograph to determination a formulation based on their paint and tints.

It has been said there is no off the shelf colors/codes in today's paints that match the original paints. They say the originals were a cellulose enamel paint with a lot of gray tones, for what ever that is worth. Supposedly my Mediterranean Blue has a lot of green in it.

Anyway Jan's email is jservatis@woh.rr.com.

If it was me.............I would contact the boys in the U.K on their Tiger site. And quite a site it is. What better place too ask then where the cars were made.
Free to join and they are are helpful bunch.

Cobrakidz, I just got a reply from Jan Servaites. Hopefully you have as well. I can verify the email address for him is a good one.

If for some reason Jan cannot help you with your color sample request, there is another approach others have used. Some people have found reasonably good condition, unoxidized, original paint on the underside of the cover plate over the heater core. If Jan cannot help, you might want to have a look at that and see if you like that color for the rest of your car to be repainted. Under the hood hinges is also a place people have looked. Strangely, when I really cleaned up the trunk on my car, there seemed to be very shiny, original looking paint under the original spare tire. Maybe those places have already been lost in the priming process, but thought I would as least mention it in case it did turn out to be helpful.

Cheers, Gene

PPG Paint Codes

Car is being primed and I was wondering if there are current paint codes with todays manufactures or matching colors for other car brands. My car has a paint code of 92 Arctic White and I just want to make certain the shop gets it right.

My Tiger was restored back in 2004. I emailed PPG and got the PPG paint code for my Tiger from the PPG Color Library.
Email back then was colorregistration@ppg.com Don't know if this email still exists but they had all records for the Tiger paint codes and still should. They even advised me as to where I could purchase the paint!

Gene, I tried to email him but it comes back as "undeliverable"--any ideas? As far as the PPG address, it is no longer active.

Opps! It would have helped if I had typed his e-mail address correctly:eek:

Try jservaites@woh.rr.com and let me know if you do hear back from him. My sense is he can get pretty busy and it may take a while.
