I'm thinking of getting my car done in a wrap. I've had some bad experiences with painters and just tired of the mess.
Got a est of 2200.00 to have it wrapped in Ebony Black which I think is the "1" paint code on the tag. Then also put the stock molding back on.
Just looking for some in put.
Thanks

We have several cars that come to our Cars and Coffee on Saturdays that have been wrapped--they look great. It is hard to tell if they do a good job and durable. Out here they average $2500 - $3000. I say do it........

If I understand this correctly ......... Is this that stuff they apply that others call a "Clear Bra" , a clear protective cover , or wrap that most put on the front to ward off rock chips / nasty acidy eatting bugs ? ? ? Never heard of covering the WHOLE car ( ? ) .

Flog me if I'm wrong . Never heard of a WHOLE cover .

For the last few years 3m and other companies have offered full body eraos in various finishes and colours. Its been popular in the Japanese import scene and for muscle cats and exotics using matt colours snd chrome finishes...

I haven't seen many cars with just a standard colour like a paint finish, but have seen impressive results for the matt colours and coloured chrome finishes.

This is an intriguing idea. I agree the mat finishes will likely work best.
I can attest to the durability of a good vinyl wrap once applied, we have a Smart car wrapped to promote our restaurant and it has survived the Harsh Canadian climate (car eating road salt during winter) for several years now.

And the wrap can be removed to reveal the paint it has been protecting when the time comes. Cant wait for one of you brave Cat drivers to show us how its done!

It's a Wrap

I'm working in Hollywood right now, cars with full body wraps are quite common here, the new Maserati in full chrome or gold is especially popular. The wraps I've seen here look as good as a top quality paint job. If you could even get a chrome paint job to look that good. Obviously it must take some skill and practice to apply with excellent results, I'm sure if I went to other neighborhoods I could find less attractive examples on less expensive cars. The guy I talked to with a gold wrap Maserati says they're completely removable with no damage to the original paint. I say go for it!

Bruce, that's a matte wrap isn't it? Most of the wraps I've seen are those or coloured chrome.

I had debated doing my LAT bonnet in matt black wrap to see what it looked like against the metallic silver of my mkia, and could give a late 60's race look.

Yes--that is the matte finish, here is a glossy one that was done by the owner in his garage, said he spent less than $1000 in materials.

I don't have an image yet however Ross Baille, a member of our Aussie club has 2 Tigers, a concourse Mk1 and a extremly nice Mk2 that has a full clear wrap over the paint. He shipped it to the Monte 50 and is shipping it over to Cal for your event next year.

Overall it was very nice, you could tell it was a wrap if you looked closely around the lights and tight edges. Better than I could do though. :)
