Hi All

I know this is not Tiger specific, but I would like to ask if anybody has any experience with parking lifts for your garage. I have been toying with the idea of acquiring another classic car but I live in a single garage townhouse currently occupied by my Tiger and my SUV is already relegated to the driveway.

According to my imprecise measurements my garage should be able to handle a 4-post lift. Any recommendations on brand or companies.

I see many just ship to your house and you install yourself. I have to admit I am looking for something "turnkey".

Thanks, Jim

I too once had a desire to own a lift and did some deep investigation.

My two pinhead neighbors bought cheap ones........I will never stand under them..........never, the lift not the neighbor.

The majority of lifts are made in China or the parts are made there and assembled here in the States.

Now....don't go thinkin' I don't buy anything made in China, I do. I have even been known to eat take out on occasion.

A good starting point is too have a ten foot ceiling, next is too buy the safest lift you can afford. I liked Backyard Buddy when on the prowl to purchase.

The lift takes up room. It would have just got me in more trouble as I would have gone out and bought another car.

So in answer to your questiion........do not buy cheap and that ASTM, ETL has a grading for lifts.
If you do a search, the grading for lifts is braggin' rights by the lift companies. Hope this helps.

More Agreement

Quality generally will show thru, and yes, costs are related. A safe 4-post lift for 7K light duty will still eat up some space but is workable. Sometimes, you can find a garage (shop) looking to upgrade a drive-on scissors or 4-poster and a deal can be struck that can include installation assistance ?? Reasearch the floor fastening requirements or stability factors, also.

Thanks guys. I had been looking at Back Yard Buddy and Bend-Pak, but it seems Bend-Pak has just started to manufacture their lifts offshore (China?) after originally being U.S. made for years.

I am leaning toward a 4 post lift because everything I have read indicates that these are free standing, whereas the 2 post and 1 post lifts require certain foundation requirements and are secured to floor.

My garage should be able to handle it since it has a 10 foot ceiling and the open door still provides 8 feet of clearance.

As I mentioned a big factor will be installation. I want this dome by professionals. Unfortunately, not many to choose from...at least in my area.

Thanks Again,

Jim
