What thickness of ply was used for the false boot floor ?

Is the vinyl covering available and also the hardware.

Mine was not there when I bought the car.

Solid

response, because we need to up the detail here IMHO...

- Base ply and ply above battery is 1/4", 5 layer, with rounded (yes) corners.
- Battery box made with SOLID wood; 9/16" thick x 2 9/16" height. 19" x 10 3/4" are dimensions of battery box top lid.
- The solid wood forms a sandwich between the ply sheets, thus you cannot simply use the cutout from the box area as the lid. you'll need to have it be bigger by the width of the solid wood for overlap.
- Vinyl. There are vinyl sheets available from vendors such as S/S. I've yet to assess the quality of the grain match. I have seen covers over the side panels and this floor that are far to thick and grain which does not 100% match original pattern. (this is the case for some other re-pop vinyl areas as well I am finding...) This floor vinyl grain does seem to match the under dash 'knee roll' padding in texture FYI.
- Hardware: sorry, I wont be unscrewing any of these, as they're a bit rusty-ish and want them to stay where is. But hope the pictures can help.
- Simple flat woods screws into the box sandwich, staples to hold vinyl, and the nut/bolts holding straps, hangers look pretty standard. Should not be an issue.
- Strap = issue. Folks trying to repro the tool kit boot floor strap are challenged. I've an idea... Before I release that info, I'll try to confirm and determine if I could sell a few for pints or liters of petrol.

Sunbeam Specialties makes a complete unit using original materials
TT57F for $285 us......The quality is excellent. It's the way to go if you can
stand the shipping charges..

Looks like

1/4 ply. I have a S.S. or generic repop. I'd of rather built my own as it is ill fitting and one size can't fit all lt my .02 The brackets and hardware is pretty rudimentary The small screwed into the boot bulkhead are nearly identical to the parts used in marine stores for battery hold downs. I am also unhappy with the plastic boot cards. Isn't there a UK Tiger vendor or thread on a mfg of the cards and the is it crush grain? The other bits Dzus brackets were done in stainless steel by Sunbeam specialties I understand there are out of stock ,lately. I have also heard that the male part of the Dzus fastener can be found at places that sell aircraft fasteners.

Google 'footman's loop' for the bulkhead fittings and one on the trunk lid...
They're available in several different metals with the correct center to center size
I think the plywood is Baltic birch which has the multi plies vs the usual building supply grade...

Thanks for all the replies.

That's great info DD. I would think you would get three floors built out of one sheet of ply.
Most of the construction ply is not the best of timber for this sort of use. I think a good marine ply would be the best as the timber it is made from is superior and it will be 5 ply construction.

I will see what the local auto upholster can come up with regarding the vinyl.

You want what ??

Went to seven (yup, 7) suppliers and not one could (would) sell me marine grade plywood. Even though the basis of the strength and durability is found in the product's name "ply", no counter sales pro could find any in the supply system. Apparently , the bean counters have degraded all manufacturing in favor of cheap costs = bigger & faster profits . . . . . .

Non of the building suppliers here stock marine ply anymore either. But they can get it if you want.

Try finding it on the internet through boat building supplies etc.

Keaton boats are still made by hand in Sacramento--they may carry it. I have a good friend that was a high end kitchen cabinet maker up there, I'll see if he knows where to go. Great pics Derek.
******update******
Aura Hardwood in Sacramento carries it.

Over in Aussie land we have a couple of large hardware chains. Yup, what thickness/size of marine ply do you want. All stocked at Bunnings

Trunk floor

I am also in the process of remaking the false floor. Can someone advise me of the purpose of the semi circular cut out in the right hand side of the battery cover top. On my old floor it has the leather cloth stretched loosely across it. I also have a similar cut-out at the top left hand corner of the floor with again the leathercloth loosely across it. What are these areas made like this for? I understand the small cut outs at each side of the floor are to allow the pram hinges to close. Also what was used to join the strap when the boot floor was raised ? I have the remains of the strap but on the floor bottom. It obviously went through the footman loop in the trunk cover but how did it fasten to itself and how long was the strap?
Sorry so many questions.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Footman's loop

Does anyone have the measurements for the width of the footman's loop?

Thanks!

metal

The ones from early cars are a rough cast iron . Granted I did not remove these from the very early under 100 car it was in the bits taken off the car. Later ones seem to be pot metal
variety.

Gee, wouldn't it be interesting to have a finned aluminum trunk floor, CNC machined with the name TIGER in the center? ;)

And let's have matching footman loops, with the fins and the name TIGER in the center. A very small name TIGER.;)

They are 2 1/4" centers...
Lots available aftermarket but the originals have a sharper edge on the corners...
The plywood used is called 'Baltic birch'... 1/4" or 6mm and is 5 ply

Footman loop

thanks, I'll try and find some online that are close to the originals
