Radio Antenna

Hi All
While shipping my Tiger back from Florida (it is still enroute.) The tip of the antenna mast was broken off.

Does anybody know anything about the specs for these antennas and a possible source? Are they fairly standardized items that were used on most cars of the day or are they Sunbeam specific? I have the standard original WR-1 push button Motorola radio as described in the dealer accessory catalog (see link.) The car is restored to original specs so I am hoping I can find an original or NOS part. Third choice would be a reproduction.

I have also attached a photo of the car, although it is from a distance and the antenna is fairly nondescript.

I know this is not the most catastrophic issue, but any help would be most appreciated. I checked all my paper work from the restoration but was unable to locate any reference to the antenna, so I am absolutely clueless on where to get a replacement. The radio was restored by Classic Car Radio Service, so I might try there if nothing else turns up through our Tiger network.

Thanks, Jim

Photo of Antenna Base

Just an add on to my previous post. I just received this photo of the antenna base. Might help a little.

Thanks,

Jim

Tough

Dearborn Classics sells some Ford fender mounts that are very similar. Only trouble is the chrome is quite thin. Also the other Mustang type units may be a good hit.

antenna

go to your local AUTO ZONE and you will find a stainless antenna that is about 30 inches tall.it's a single mast and does not have mutiple sections. it fits the hole in the car and is period correct. i have them on four of my sunbeams. maybe 10 or 12 dollars.

Car cover

With a fixed section stainless mast will need you to chop a hole in your car cover as will some that do not collapse into the fender well or car interior depending on where your hole is. It looks like yours goes into the under dash area.

The ones that Dearborn Classics sell do not come down all the way into the fender, at least the one I bought does not. It is really aggravating with a car cover. I am glad my antenna hole was covered by the PO. At the big 3 swap meet in San Diego I saw several vendors ,lots of aftermarket Chevy stuff and several antennas.. so they are out there.

I just removed my "original" antenna and filled the hole--I had better not throw it away.

Problem Solved

After pouring through receipts from the restoration for a while, I found that the antenna on the car is a repro of a 65 Mustang Antenna available from National Parts Depot. Since the hole is already sized for that antenna, I will probably stick with the same as a replacement.:)

Thanks for the feedback.

Jim
