I am now working on my third antenna they all seem to break loose at the base where the main tube joins the base. Has anyone found a high quality
telescoping antennae that fits in the stock location ??? I bought one from Retro
Sound but the base does not swivel enough to get the antennae straight up vertical. Now that radios antennae's are molded into the windshield or stuck on the roof these old style one's are a dying breed.......

antennae

I use an antennae that I buy at auto zone but is probably available at other similar part houses. it's not telescopic but with the base it is adjustable so it is vertical. there is a photo on page 2 of my photobucket that shows it mounted on the right side of my green alpine. there should also be some photos on the last couple of pages showing it mounted on the wife's car. http://s606.photobucket.com/albums/tt142/65beam/

Buy several

Dead breed you should say. I have had many from Dearborn Classics and other Mustang and Ford parts sellers. All are made in China and are crap that don't last, don't collapse into the fender completely, so you can not get a car cover on and basically are a disposable replace every year item if on a nice car like yours.
The decision is not cutting a hole or filling the one before you have it restored. I have a black rubber plug and don't like it but that's the way it came.

antenna

the one I use has a stainless mast that can be removed leaving the mount still on the body. the base has two cross pieces that pull up against the body to secure it which is similar to what was installed on my green car when sold new at byers in Columbus. another option for the cover is to cut an opening in the cover for the antenna which is what we have done for five of our beams. we do have the cover stitched and reinforced to eliminate it tearing.

That sounds like a good fix !!! The ones I have been using have come from
Autozone so I'll go look for one. Mine usually break when the car cover goes on or comes off. Thanks for the reply.
