Radio mounting plate

Anybody have a spare radio mounting plate. I am looking for the black trapazoid plate that hangs from the lower dash pad that the radio is installed in from behind. I have an idea for a removable cup holder using some plastic boat cup holders, but don't want to modify my only nice one. Or in the alternative...what do people do with their coffee/water?

I think people are less likely to offer a rare part up if it's going to be modded as mentioned.... i also agree with duke.. drink before driving (non-alcholic drinks obviously)

However if you browse the CAT members roster there are a few people in there that might be able to help.

PM me while I go diggin' in the barnz . . . . . .

I buy my brew pub beer in a growler, maybe try it with coffee? and let it roll around on the passenger side floor. Or use a thermos . . . . . Just teasing.

Custom plate

I will be adding a custom insert to the glove box with a hidden audio and possibly a cup holder. Boat stores as West marine have some nice options. Your car is too nice to spill in, let me suggest that you get a nice 10 footer like I have.

This wound up looking pretty close to the previous photoshop pic.

Had to cut out the front notch over the console. The legs on each side of the console were shortened to miss the seat adjustment mechanism and the flange across the rear of the cup holder was removed.

Received the part for under $10.50 including shipping. Couple hours time including cutting and gluing a closure piece across the back out of similar looking acrylic.

Job well done...looks like it belongs and was professionally done. I went another route. Mine is removable using a slightly modified clip on cup holder from West Marine that I had laying around (I cut off the clip part) and picture hanging bracket...Soory for the poor picture quality (night shot with a phone)

Thanks. They both have their merits. Yours will hold a Big-Gulp, mine won't hold anything bigger than a soda can (or equivalent ;)) but I can use both to match your volume LOL

A potential problem with mine is possible condensation forming on the underside against the console finish :(

Justin,

Your dual cup holder got me thinking about my upcoming semi-annual 1800 mi. trek around the province with our English car club. I remember the last time it was a pain not having a cup holder so I went off to the local auto store to see what I could find. Not much selection as I guess it's like stereos... most cars have good ones already these days.
I took a piece of aluminum and bent it so it fits snugly over the back of the console and then took a couple of single cup holders and super-glued them together and onto the plate. It's pretty stable and should do the job although may be a little awkward to reach.. oh well... far better than nothing

DANGER: The ergonomics of reaching behind you for a hot coffee cup in a moving road beast Tiger postures any number of oops situations. Just ask John Denver about the fuel reserve valve location in his ultra-light . . . . .it killed him!

I hear ya !!!

I was really only thinking of using it for my extended trip so I expected it to be operated from the passenger seat.. lol :p

Jim, Well there you go. Great solution also.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the reach though. Appears awkward but not much more difficult than reaching for a seat belt end. Also a travel mug should rest all concerns.

Chris, an installed cup holder helps cut down on the bickering. Now all the girls have to argue about is who's turn it is to get to ride up front. LOL

You mean you get girls to ride in the back? on the "parcel shelf":eek: Bet the boys in blue would have somehing to say. They would here in the land down under.

In 1970, my best friend and I used to double date in my Tiger- I was the only one who had a car. We were dating sisters...one would sit on the parcel shelf behind me with her legs extended across the back and her sister would sit behind my buddy with her legs extended across the opposite direction. Good thing I had a Mk IA- I don't think this could have been accomplished in a Mk I. I had Koni shocks all the way around, but I still had to be careful on bumps.

Ahhh, the memories:)

Now-a-days there would have to be some kind of restraint and could possibly get pulled over to be checked out just for belts. You can't even throw the dog in the back of the pickup without a tether.

I've seen M/C cops ride down between rows of cars waiting at a stop light checking out the front seats right and left for what I would assume to be the lack of a fastened belt.

Back in my youth every chance I got I'd take the Tiger out for a cruise along the coast during the summer. I was up at Malibu just south of Zuma on Pacific Coast Highway where I picked up 3 hitch hiking beach bunnies dressed up for playing and laying on the beach. They were just looking for a ride to avoid the 1/2 -3/4 mile walk to the beach from the highway.

I figured 1 or 2 might squeeze up front but all 3 threw their gear in the parcel shelf and sat themselves down on the convertible top cover holding on to the roll bar. I was afraid to showoff and give them a thrill spinning the wheels for fear of one sliding off the trunk.

So we had a nice little parade lap along Zuma creek among all the other beach goers on their foot trek to the beach. We went to the end of the parking lot did a U-eee and dropped them off where they saw friends. Those were the days.

plate

you guys live in the wrong part of the world. i have a friend that is a retired ohio state trooper and he told me if the beams did not have seat belts as standard equipment we're not required to have them in the cars. now, has anyone looked at the folding drink holders that are being sold by various suppliers? it can be mounted to the inner sills and folds up to 3/4 ". we have them in three cars. they are mounted maybe 1/2" off the floor at the front edge of the door opening. they fold down and expand to 3-1/2". victoria british sells them for 9.95. part # 15-274
