Looking at the Sunbeam Specialties catalog , I dont see outside screw amber lens's listed. Are they still avalible somewere or do you have to modify inside ones? And if you do, how?

The outside screw ones are not reproed. I believe rick offers a service where he has them countersunk out. You can also do the same with originals. The only difference wil be the part number will not be correct.

The amber ones for outside screw seem quite hard to find vs the red ones,

lense

amber rear lenses were not used on tigers and alpines sold in the states. that may be the reason nos items are hard to find.

My reference to the outside screw amber lenses is a global one, not USA only. I cant actually rember seeing any of the hillmans, singers and sunbeams here with the outside screw orange lenses.. and the only NOS ones i have seen are red. Any UK/AU members with late SV's or post '66 hillmans/singers with outside screw lenses?

Years ago I was told MK2's came with the amber turn signal. I think they look better than all red.

I just installed the amber lenses today, had to drill out the tailight body to make it work since I had outside screws before. I prefer the amber look vs the red ones.

I had to read that a couple of times before I understood what you ment. So you converted over to inside screw? That might be easier than drilling the plastic lens.

rear lense

michael,
amber lense on the tail lights was not legal here in the states when these cars were built.only a few would ever check the part number to see if you used the correct lense. the first set i bought with outside screws came from tiger tom back in the late 70's. i know he drilled them. weren't the amber only used in europe? did they use them on UK cars? i have to agree that they do make the rear look better. speaking of amber lense, i have two NOS wipac back up lights with amber lense for the fastback. they are the top mount. i found that they were only installed on hunter range cars sent to france.

Bob,

The amber lens tail lights were stock in europe, australia/NZ and UK, it is across all cars and always on all the alpines and tigers. IIRC the X (non standard) on the VIN's for USA cars is partly to do with the indicator lights being red.

What i am saying is i cant actually remember seeing original amber outside screw lenses.. am sure they exist.. but wonder when they started using them on that spec of car.. assume they would have been on post '66 minx, gazelle and vogues.

It was a quick conversion--all I had to do is drill out the 3 holes bigger in the taillamp body (to the size of the screw you are using) and install the lens. that's it. Looks cleaner from the outside too.
