Hi all, I am slowly removing all that black stuff underneath. I am using a heat gun/scraper with help from a stainless washing up ball for the tricky bits. Now when I get closer to the end, what is the consenses with a final clean down that also removes the last bits of black stuff. I think someone mentioned fuel and anothet was thinners.

Oh and while I have your attention, I have tried to email Rick from SS using the email addresses from the web site. So far no responses.?

Dude

Please use something with a lower flash point, thinner or even goof off in two strengths from the Home Depot, you have them down under? . Gasoline causes drain bamage just axe me.

I got a can of the goop off, seems to clean so so. Maybe stay with the old petrol, in a open area with breathing gear on. Besides, after 60+ years, I must have breathed in, maybe swallowed the old petrol even when it had lead. Didn't we all use a hose to get fuel out of one container and into another usually getting a gob full of fuel/fumes in the process? Lots less problems than cutting up the old fibro (aspestos) sheeting for roof's sheds etc when we didn't know about the cancer fibres.:)

Steven , dont smoke, or use candles for lighting if working at night. I think the electricity will be on for us down under some time this century.

Strange how when i go into a gas station where there is service, the pump attendants don't wear gas masks.
Don't forget to use a rag that won't cause sparks.

Cheers

Havn't smoked for 25 years, waiting till I about to fall off the pearch and then I gonna ask for a bloody big cigar. As far as the lighting goes, have fluoro's up high.

You might try oven cleaner. I removed 95% of the coating on my car prior to dipping by spraying on the oven cleaner, letting it set for up to several hours and then scraping it off. Worked reasonably well, with no danger of flammable fumes.

"Pump attendants don't wear masks". WOW! You guys have pump attendants ?!?!

"Service" stations are becoming few and far between these days. Mostly self serve. But the guys down the road who come out and pump the gas are all still alert, chatty and intelligent ;):D

I travelled South Africa a year or so ago. Every servo you pulled into they would wash the screen, check the oil/water and fill the tank. Cost about 5 rand (10cents). Also every wash room had an attendant that keep it very clean, jar at door took donation, again a few rand. The local people have no dole or other gov benefits. So they all must work where ever they can. You even paid a guy for parking in a car park, a few rand and the car was safe.
