San Diego eBay Tiger

San Diego Tiger

The car looks like a nice example, but the person posting it made a few errors. He refers to the LAT wheels, which they are not. Also, he writes at length about the engine numbers, but the car is listed as having a 289 - not what came with the car. But he does list quite a bit of useful information.

wow--did you see the picture that shows the engine compartment from the right rear......the radiator looks like it's all rusty. I like a white Tiger, very easy on the eyes. I see they added chrome protectors on the 1/4's in front of the tires kind of like the 427 Cobras..nice touch.

Gravel guards

I think the reason for the inaccurate statements is the mixing of the ad copy on the car with the vehicle build data once supplied by the registry.
I am guessing that the LAT wheels may be in with the blanket list of spares that come with the car. I like the gravel guards too but they look VW like to me :) My old German Shepard loved to chew on them but only the passenger side. I must have 6 left gravel guards in a box.

It looks to be a very nice car and as a one owner to boot.

I thinks it's a great looking tiger, but what I fibt get us egy is the engine bay black? Why do so many stateside cars have this done to them... Often the boot (trunk) too

Michael - Can't say for certain (since I never painted my engine compartment or boot black) but there were quite a few American cars of the mid 60s that did have their engine compartments and boots painted black at the factory and maybe folks liked that approach. I am not sure why the American cars were painted that way, perhaps to make it easier to touch up any paint that got scratched while installing the engine/tranny and other stuff that went under the hood. They wouldn't have to worry about matching all of the various colors that the cars came in. That's my guess.

Im Guessing the car doesn't have lat 9 pie cutter wheels in the spares package but lat70 given they say with spinners. It's a nice car will be interesting to see how it sells.

"Black engine bays"

The works Ford Rally Team in the UK nearly always used white painted shells for their rally cars in the 70's and even if the outer shells were painted in a dark colour the engine bays were always left white so that if the car an oil leak the mechanics had an idea of where it was coming from.
