I have a set of TIGER Exhaust Manifolds on my 289 that has two manifolds per side of my 280. Each manifold has a big TIGER in all caps on it and exits straight down. Anyone know what these are and what year they are from, etc.

From your description, your manifolds sound like the 'tri-y' manifolds that are from the Tiger era and were a LAT option. Although you may have originals, they have been re-popped.

They are the Tri-Y's, there were an option and also require a different engine mount on 1 side. There were 2 types in period and Grant in Canada had them repro'ed and the associated down tubes a little while back (along with the mount i think)

These are actually mean tto be a great set for street use, decent low down and mid range torque. think Gordon Chitton wrote about dyno'ing them vs the 4 branch headers in the performance tuning the tiger book.

Those were offered as the first performance exhaust manifold for the small block Ford in the 1963 - 1964 time frame. They were found lacking in performance and were quickly replaced by the tube style headers. Recently, I saw a street rod with those headers installed which is rare to see installed.

Actually the Tiger tri-Y exhausts were first produced in 1965 by Doane Spencer at Hollywood Sports Cars as an LAT option. They were homologated that year.

Previously, the yellow Shelby American race Tiger at times used the Cobra try-Ys which had more restriction than the later Tiger version. The Cobra owners quickly got rid of theirs and now those Cobra originals are going for thousands. The Cobra Tri-Ys were around in the 63-4 timeframe.

Does anybody know each Try Y go on the engine.

The set that I have has four different numbers and as I understand it they came in 2 colors silver or black, Sometime in the past someone painted them all black.

I am getting ready to put them on my Tiger.

Thanks for any responses, Doug
