Off of my most recent conquest is a fairly intact and complete bracket assembly. I would work with a guy who I know makes rubber parts for small obsolete Honda's if I could get a handle on the interest I'd like to make some up.

The rubber mount allows for a grounded plate to mot twist up the valence.

I have seen others bent up to hang the U.K. holder to accept the U.S. style plate. Seen guys have really nice plates that are 3" off the deck and I wonder how their trailer queen even gets on the trailer.:)

I have one other complete one without the rubber as it crumbled in my hands before I could get a pic. It is going in the sale pile.

A flexible trailer license plate bracket works best. Mounts the plate higher and moves when curbed.

Something

Wrong with a plastic trailer plate hanger. Like the old joke, do you know your are trailertrash ? when you put the new TV on top of the old TV .
Or in this case put your US license plate on top of the old British one ,
Back in VW days that was the thing to do out here put your license plate on top of an old German one.

Warren. You need some new jokes. We are no longer "back in the day".

I got some 'extra' brackets on mine that the plate fastens to... they adjust up-down a bit but I never had any rubber... just a solid mount. I thought it might be all 'stock' but I guess not
Keeps the plate out of harms way... most of the time

Stock front license plate bracket

Jim,

Mine has the same "extra" brackets as your car has, and they have been on the car since new as delivered from the dealer. :)

2 Types

The long center extruded steel bar that mounts between the factory placed bolt holes is most likely the factory piece. The English plates are the same general length. Since it was a dealer installed item I suspect there were several available. Some of you crafty types with a squaring shear and a sheet metal brake do nice work as well but several I have seen for sale do not have the slotted bracket as yours Jim. My neighbor got a ticket for no front plate last week, although her car was parked on street overnight. I'd rather not be a target after a 2 beer show at Ruby's in Redondo Beach Friday eve.

I've been busted for no front plate so many times with so many cars over the years that I've finally come around to running 2 plates... lol!
You're right... hate to get pulled over just for that... and then have to blow in a tube...
I'm guessing that mine hadn't been on the car for some time as it wasn't installed but found it in one of the boxes when the car was shipped from Texas. It had a black plate in it with a 'Camino Datsun' / 'Sunnyvale' surround attached.
I see that Randy sells a repro without the slots...
I'm guessing that adapting was an issue for all the dealers 'back in the day' :p and there may have been an aftermarket 'kit' to solve it that was commonly used.
So... that rubber piece on the mounting bracket was 'factory' ??

A cautionary tale. In CA they require a front plate, but I prefer not to mount it and leave it on the passenger side dash in an attempt to avoid a ticket. I was going round a slow speed but sharp hairpin right when the steering jammed at full lock. The plate had slid across the dash and jammed between the spokes on the wheel and the door. I was able to stop OK before I hit anything, but when I picked the plate up off the floor it was bent in half, apparently when I attempted to straighten the wheel. The dash is not a good place for the plate.

A life long friend is a Lt in the local police dept--he said they rarely/never pull anyone over in a classic car for the front plate--unless of course they are looking for an excuse for some other reason. Maybe we are just lucky in nor cal.......:)
