A 1/43 scale Tom Patton slot car...the decals are tiny!

It was on ebay awhile back with a low buy-it-now price, so I bought it:)

That looks so cool!

I see what appear to be Aurora pick-ups? If HO, isn't that a different scale? 1/87? 1/64? I do recall when they came out with a bigger format, Super HO, was that 1/43 and is that what this car is? So long ago for me...

OTOH, scales are like dyno #'s, only interesting to stat freaks. ;)

You have good eyes...I don't know what kind of chassis it's on. This morning, I put it next to my 1/43 scale metal Tiger...it's way smaller than that. Then I set it next to the Johnny lightning Tiger...it's smaller than that! So, yes- it must be 1/87 or 1/64- good eyes! I hadn't compared it to anything until you mentioned the other scales. It's been awhile since I bought a slot car set.

Comes from spending as many hours as a kid with HO cars (starting with one of those Stirling Moss set with the "vibrator' motors) as I did restoring the 1:1 scale Tiger.

Seriously, it COULD have been 1/43 if someone pulled a mold off a 1/43 car (I betcha the HO one you got is where someone pulled a mold off a Johnny Lightning) but I think the "Super HO" racing sets were kinda rare.

O.k., here's a comparison pic...maybe you can tell me the scale from this. The bottom car is the (I believe) 1/43 scale metal model Wally Swift used to sell. The top piece is Johnny Lightning. The box that the slot car is in I don't believe is correct for the car, but it was shipped in that. BTW, the Tiger slot car had fins ala a Series 3 or earlier, but I modified them.

MY EYES! The Enco models Wally sold (I'm typing this from Beltsville MD just a couple of miles from his house) were definitely 1/43rds, I have several of his in my collection.

The problem is "HO". Officially 1/87... ever see a joint layout of HO cars and trains? The cars look all out of proportion, for comparison look at a train store at the tiny little cars they sell as display items for train layouts. The HO cars, well, the scale of 1/64 is stuck in my head for some reason but I cannot defend that. See your photo, makes sense, but possibly measuring the car and dividing that into the known overall length of a 1:1 Tiger might not be a satisfying exercise -- the cars will be misproportioned to fit the one-size-fits-all chassis (with somewhat adjustable wheelbase, as you see). Your slot car to my eyes is HO and not Super HO, tried to find some supporting web pages and no-go, sorry.

Larry, I took some measurements and 1/64 is accurate, but- since I modified the back fins to make an earlier body into a S4- it's more like 1/73 right now! Final answer!! Kirk

Wow, I didn't expect you to really do that.

Now, if someone will start casting 0.20" diameter LAT70 replicas...:D
