Tiger Wood, The Wheel n Dash

super pretty

I've got one of Randy's dashboards in my car and it's still gorgeous "after all these years." Mine has the cubby door. Couldn't care less that it's not "original." It adds greatly to the expanse of gorgeous wood. :)

On the other hand, I did the resto of the steering wheel. One of my better efforts, but extremely labor-intensive.

The wheel looks great, want to sell it? ;-D

The dash too... I spent not a few minutes considering the cubby door. Really is pretty and practical. Glad to hear that the dash remains in great condition, but also considering the original construction and comparing to Prestige, I'd expect that... ;-)

Thanks for sharing the pics,

Derek

Thanks very much Derek. The dash has darkened a bit, but that's expected. Prestige does an impeccable job.

RE: the wheel. Thanks for your offer. I can't sell it. Too much sentimental value for one thing. When we took the wheel off the car, it literally came apart into 7 or 8 pieces. I did not have a clue about fixing it so just followed my instincts. Found some two-part beige epoxy putty from Eastwood, put all the pieces together and clamped the unit between a couple of pieces of plywood. A few days later, I undid the clamps and it was wild-looking. All kinds of epoxy residue everywhere, even though I did my best to clean off the excess prior to clamping.

Anyway, the sentimental part is remembering how our youngest daughter, who was no older than 4, maybe 5, insisted on sanding the wheel with me. "I want to help on Dada's tiger-car". :) And, she did!
It's got about 15 coats of hand-rubbed urethane and looks about as good as did when I finished it.

I scored a gorgeous Moto-Lita recently on eBay and will put the original wheel into safe storage.

Cars, cars, cars. I think most of us are more than a little eccentric. :)

I think I got my replacement on my Series III GT from SS 12 years ago. Not sure who was making Rick's back then, but it's as good as factory (looking) and better in construction.

Looking for one for the Tiger now and it's a toss-up on a couple of makers. They are all better than factory now.

What about these guys? $405.00 direct.

Its been so long...

Fordlandia, what make is your steering wheel?

I will have to check my receipts file. I thought (believe) it is a Moto Lita, but I'll check and post the correct answer. Imagine that... 66 years old and I am already not remembering everything from 20+ years ago. How sad!

Lecarra

If the wheel on the car is the same as in this photo you put into this thread, it's a Lecarra. I took the liberty of rotating and cropping the image and darkening and sharpening the area in red which shows the Lecarra name. It is not the clearest image but if you look closely, it is there. This is about the limits of clarity and enhancement I could do with the original image since it was such low resolution. I hope I have not offended Fordlandia (or anyone else) by doing this. I am an advertising photographer by trade.

You are right, Paul...

Here's an even "closer" photo (from the original very high resolution photo I have). A Lecarra it is... and, no, glad you worked your magic on the photo... saved me some digging through receipts!

Regards,

Bill
