Timing chain cover color?

I know that the stock color for the 260 should be black, but my question is about the timing chain cover. Is it left in the bare metal finish or should I paint that too? Also, what about the freeze plugs? On an original engine were they painted black or metal finish?
Yeah I know its somewhat trivial details, but I'd hate to loose the concourse because of a small detail.

Upon dis-assembly of my believed to be original and untouched timing cover, it was painted black just like the engine.

Everything was painted black including freeze plugs, timing cover, water pump, etc. Then the carb, valve covers, pulleys, distributor, etc were fitted.
