Trunk Lid Adjustment

Firstly... Tape all the opening edges on the body.

Which adjustment do you need... The sunbeam boot ( trunk) is often ill fitting. The vertical face is sometimes not even side to side and sometimes high on 1 side. The height is controlled by the 2 buffers mounted inside the panel. These adjust vertically to ensure the boot doesnt hit the body when closed and help prevent sideways movement.

The alignement is controlled by the hinges on the rear sctuttle ypu can asjust the position of them on the body and Also the lod on their extnded hinge part. This controls the poostion of the lod. Try and gently adjust to get the gap even at the scuttle edge where the hinges are then at the sides.

Also it can help to back the spring hinges off by 1 position nehinf the boot panels. It will mean it won't pop open so fast and high.. Bit also means less pressure on everything.

Finally if the issue is that the lid is arching above the wing profile on the side.. Open the lod and look at the inner skin... If there is a crease across the side.. The panel is bending itself.. Definitely back the springs off to reduce pressue on it... But sadly the only fix for that is panel work to straighten.

Hope that helps

It ain't ever purrrrfect .

They do wiggle & chip side-to-side. Haven't come up with a really good buffer solution yet, but we keep trying. The raised crease about midway down the crown against the quarter panel is quite common; often due to lack of lubrication of the scissored props. Getting rid of that high spot can chew up some body works man-hours. I suggest allowing any lady admirer to sit atop the crease and keep feeding her until enough pressure is created . May take several trips thru the fast food lanes.

I have a Problem after hours adjusting the trunk lid , still move .
Any idea how to fix the issue , I am not the only one for sure . What do you think of 3M clear paint protector film , i was also thing of putting a Transparent hose cut in half . Car going to be fix again next week !!!! Car never been hit !!!à

Gilles,

I am no expert and others may chime in with better thoughts, but it just looks like your trunk lid is adjusted too far forward (towards the front of the car), causing the front edge to rub against the edge of the trunk opening.

On my car, the gap between the leading edge of the trunk lid and the body is 3/8" on either side of both trunk hinges.

Good luck!

trunk adjustement

3/8 is it all around , my trunk is not enough forward I think , can anyone supply the dimension between the trunk lid ( front) and the body . The bottom of my trunk lid is about 1/4 outside of the car trunk !!!!

Thanks

Gilles

Gilles,

Your lid is not sitting right and the damage on the body is likely feom movement of the lid when you drive. A few possible causes.

1. The little buffers that stop the lid closing to far also help stop ots lateral movement if they seat correctly on the bot seal. Of they are not sitting right they many allow more lateral movent of the lid.

2. The original gaskets for the hinges are paper, the repro rubber ones tend to allow some squish and wriggle.
