Does anyone have an extra set of covers or a pattern or source? Thanks in advance for any help.

I should have tried you first, lol. I am just looking to complete my trunk on my driver. Do you think there would be much interest in repos?

Do you know if all Tiger and Alpines came with them?
I do not know if all Tigers and Alpines came with them. I would imagine that they would both have them. One of the main reasons for having them is to damp out the creaking noise of the springs when opening or closing the trunk.

Interesting. I never knew there were spring covers.

I just looked at the Alpine from Series 3 on and I don't find a callout for spring covers.

They are fitted to all cars through all series.
Tbry prevent thr springs filling with debris and dirt/ dust.

Years ago someone made skme slip on repros that were close to original.. But in reality and hard wearing vynil that is moisture resistant will do for a driver

My series 4 has the original covers that are the same black pebble grain (Pig Skin) material as the interior. Were all covers made using the same material that was used in the interior?

These were used through the Mk1 Tiger.. and they came in different colors (I have azure blue and black examples), so were likely made from scrap left over on the upholstery shop floor. All the ones I have observed are in smooth grain vinyl. I've seen them in cars as late as July 1965 but have not observed them in Mk1a or Mk2 cars. On MK1a and Mk2 the springs are lightly oversprayed in body color paint.

Dirt and debris really ? How much dirt and debris will accumulate in the enclosed fuel tank compartments that would cause a problem with the springs unless you have huge holes in the inner wheel panels As mentioned they are put on the springs to act as a noise damper so the springs won’t creak when opening or closing the trunk 😊

The spring covers were used up until very late production of the series 5 Alpines and were usually the same material and color of the interior. I had a series 5 Alpine that was in the last 50 made and it didn't have the covers so that may account for not being on some MK 2 Tigers. This car has the blue spring covers.

Lots of cars had some covers . Probably more like keeping things out or the spring coils. Jackets car covers little fingers. I didn't have them on any of the cars I've had.
If you think of it...
Is there extra work to install after body color is on?
Yes then it's a good cost cutting to leave em out. Other cars have a plastic sleeve that's cut for snap on snap off ease. It is a little creaky without but nowhere near the annoying scalp remover latch.

That's why my mk1a doesn't have them. Thanks.
This adventure of restoration takes many turns.

Keep in mind that the chrome trunk hinges were not installed until after paint work so when would springs have been installed. The original cars I've seen or owned did have the trunk props painted body color but didn't have springs painted body color. The trunk lids did have original color paint on the underside of the trunk lid where the prop bolts on. Were these parts painted in a separate operation and then installed later?

both my late Mk1a (now sold) and my mk2 have body color overspray on the trunk springs and both were original paint cars....

I agree with Sean . I was laying out a 60 something vintage whine about the cad plated stamped steel scalp remover that is bolted to the boot lid.
