Valve cover tag

I decided to replace the valve covers rather than re chrome the original. I opted to use the stock covers from SS. I also purchased a new tag from the club supply. My question is two part.

1. Since I have the original tag should I try to remove it and reapply it to the new valve civer? If so any suggestions how to remove?

2. Should I stamp the new tag I purchased and apply that? If so anyone have a recommendation on an adhesive?

I want to make sure I don't disrupt as little value or originality as possible

Let it be

Hang the old valve covers on the wall as art in the man cave. I have heard guys use old typewriter keys. Mc Master Carr Grainger or Harbor freight has stamps that are close. It seems contact cement or weatherstrip adhesive is a poor choice. There are some nice clear two part epoxy type that when squeezed out along the edges will not be as apparent.

Valve cover tags

Ben, DO NOT remove tags from origional valve covers!! I have HEARD an old typewriter will do the job. I prefer having any local trophy shop lazer or engrave in the numbers.:) Good luck

I looked into this a bit some time ago but have yet to do anything. As I recall, the closest number fonts I could find were on ebay.co.uk and they were not all that cheap. Getting the same size as the original numbers, as well as the same shape of some of the numbers was the problem.

I seem to recall the "6" "9" and maybe the "7" on the stock label had some slightly different curves or extensions to them than the stuff readily available here. Like the top of the "6" does a 180 degree rounded curve rather than sloping up and ending sooner. Guess it really depends on how close you want things to be... I am sure some people feel I am really over thinking the whole thing. And maybe rightly so :)

Anyway you might want to have a look at ebay.co.uk to see what is currently available if interested at that level of detail.

Origional parts

So George, what is the reason not to remove the original tags out of curiosity?
Ben, Keep all origional Tiger parts. When you upgrade ie.. fuel pump & bracket, carb. & intake, generator & bracket, air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, steering wheel, hub caps & beauty rings, transmission & shifting linkage, valve covers, radiator, battery hold down, motor block, false trunk floor. ect. ect. I recall (Duke Mk 1A) on this thread. Saying he has all his origional parts. So the car can be brought back to origional. By him or future owner & will bring much much more money... Not many Tigers have there origional valve covers with matching numbers. Many Tiger owners are looking & hopeing to find there cars origional matching numbers valve covers. Therefor for DO NOT distroy origional. Use your new valve covers & tags (stickers);)
