VIN rivets

I assume you mean the mkia/mkii riverts?

Go to norm millers site and he shows them under the identifying features.

Late

That is what the later ones look like the tags were attached before cars were painted as told to me by registry. Original tags have red primer underneath which sort of defeats the reason most take em off in the first place to repaint.

TAC certs are being reprinted to no longer have the original rivets Y or N per TAC chair.

I asked the question after seeing a Y circled on a recently TACed late car with unreasonable facsimile copies.

I could be all wrong here but the rivets/tag in Duke's pic are not 'late' as the car has a spec plate and is about 2/3 through the MK1's...
Also, the JAL is painted body colour ( and primer undrneath ) as it was installed before paint ... I doubt that the VIN tag was installed before paint and masked. I always thought it was installed after paint as I expect the early spec plates were too

I often wondered about the Y/N on the rivets... if you get your car TAC'ed with a 'Y' and take it in for a repaint and the body shop takes the tag off  ...then what ?

Left field

Jim you are right as usual not the earlier vins had different rivets and the number and pic in this posting has a early vin with the late rivets.

Don't ever remember the discussion of correctness of rivet style in the concourse training I was a. We just picked apart a Lord Rootes Trophy winner a late Chrysler influenced car:rolleyes:

So yes the screws should be painted as well on the JAL and I could be having a senior moment but recollect the differences in the fonts even between colour code was attributed to color being applied after the tag.

So PITT the rivets Duke pictured are good for your late car but not the one pictured. Didn't you send me this one pictured Jim;)

Oh and sorry for the left turn on the thread I had some rivets that came in a Rootes bag but gave em to a pal doing a resto
