Hi,
I'm new to this forum and have recently purchased B382002470 LRXFE, I would like to confirm that it does have the original drivetrain and what the numbers mean.

JAL 662470 what does this represent ?
Engine 6971-B19KS what does stand for ? built Feb 19, 66 maybe?
model C4PZ-6001-CF ?
s/o number 2632 ?
color code 86 british racing green I believe

The engine I believe is original, block with a casting id of C4OE-6015-E with a build date 5C20, heads 5C4 and intake 5A20.
Original engine tag reads 260 66 9 5 K 510 J which I believe was built Oct 65.

The underside of the car has undercoating over red oxide with green overspray, looks very original with the exception of some rust repairs that have been made in the past.

I'm planning on doing a complete restoration on the car and am trying to gather information before I start. Are there some books that would of value to me other than the workshop manual which I already have.

Any and all information is greatly appreciated
Arild

Welcome

You need the transmission number and the rear end number. The vin shows in PA on the TIROST site in PA in 2012 . Not much on engine data to be obtained from there is a long time Tiger guy that has a ongoing engine study and he closely looks at all the numbers you speak of. I can send you his email if you use the PM system.

If you use the search drop down or look at some recent posts a couple of guys have just gone thru the same fun.

Post some pics and be sure to shoot them at lower res so they easily attach.

Welcome to the forum..you should update your member ID to include your location as near by members can be very helpful.

Most of what yu are looking for is in the " Book of Norman" or BON if you can't obtain one than email to Norm Miller should yield what info is a matter of record.

Welcome

Welcome and congrats: That is only the third time I've seen the JAL suffix match the serial # last four digits. There's usually a number spread as the body from pressed steel to Jensen was a bit random. # 86 is Forest Green.
Anyway, my suggestion would be to contact < Rootes1@earthlink.net > for a complete numbers rundown. Have your tranny tag # (right side of case) and the rear casting number (carb clean & brush under the pinion nose, it's feint). Norm may have some history on the car for you also.
Enjoying the mania, yet?

Congrats on your purchase--would love to see pics. Like the others have said--before contacting Norm have all your numbers handy----engine, trans, rear end, vin and JAL info, valve cover info and any history (names or locations) to help ID the car.

Thanks for the welcome, I've updated my profile, I'm located in Maple Ridge BC Canada and wanted to join this forum because it seems to have the that i see has activity.
I have always liked the Tigers and recently was at a car show where they had 10 Tigers out to celebrate the up coming 50th anniversary. That's all it took to spark my interest in purchasing this car, I'm very particular to matching numbers and believe this one is as well.

My transmission is a HEH-E which I believe is original and the rear end I haven't been able to read as of yet.

Where would one purchase a BON, from what I've googled they are very scarce...

Thanks again

Curious but where did you see the 10 Tigers.......Did you happen to be in Monterey Ca for the Historic races ( 3rd week in August) and took in the Concours on the Avenue with 10 Tigers .

As for BON pricing it all depends on condition and signatures so a low of $1000 to a high of $2000. You will find that the good stuff to have is expensive
but if you can afford it buy it as it will only appreciate over time

Library Copy

The well worn BON can be had for 2 weeks but you have to pay to ship both ways.
If you are going stock class its nice but if personalized or modified its info you can pick up along the way.

I can think of 1000 car things I'd rather spend the dough on than a BON.

Ha Ha Numbers?

The engine number, JAL number and vin are on bolt on or rivited parts. Matchingnumbersaresomewhatsubjective on Tigers. Best wishes.

Check with Norm, Rootes 1? and attend an event where TAC is offered.

Please post in My Tigers Story photos and details of the acquisition.

Warren,
I'll probably take you up on the offer to borrow BON book at a later date, I have 2 other cars that I want to finish first then onto the Tiger.

I was at the Canadian Concours D'Elegance in Vancouver which is where they had 10 or more Tigers on display, it was awesome to see them all in different colors, stock, modified and race prepped versions.
I'm aware of the much abused "numbers matching" phrase, lets just say I would like to keep this car as close as I can to how it left the factory.
Thanks again

Data

Graham copied me on your car, she looks like a bit of a project but they all are.

Contact Bill at the CAT club parts when you need a gander at the BON . If it is at the meeting Sat. will look your car up.

I hope you can find all the bits to get her back to the stock.

I just bought one that was 99% stock and first thing I did was rip off stuff that I dislike and put in a storage container. Oil filter setup, generator, intake, carb, valve covers, steering wheel, brake booster and wheels. Exhaust manifolds and stock brakes are next.

To each his own. I won't do anything to butcher the car though. Everything I do will be reversible.

I said that once too...

Welcome

Welcome to the club. I also live in Maple Ridge and had my Tiger out a number of times to the Thursday night cruise in at the A & W. I have a copy of the BON and could give you whatever info is available on your car - Norm keeps some confidential.

Gord,
I sent you a PM, I've seen your car at the A&W. I've always liked it.
Thanks for offering to help with BON.

I was able to confirm that the transmission and rear end are original to the car from Norman.
Thanks to all
Arild
