wanted original spare tire

Arild.

You want a correct tiger steel rim and date stamped.. Or one with a correct tyre too?

If you want correct date stamp what vin is the car? You maybe need a 65 or 66 stamped rim..

Arild I think you already know, but there is a difference between the Tiger steel wheel and the Alpine steel wheel. The easiest way to tell the difference is by the raised dimple on the outside edge of each of the stud holes for the Tiger. The Alpine wheels are much more plentiful. The difference is shown on the pics below. Ron

Ron,

The alpine wheel on the left is an early series alpine wheel. The late SIV and SV alpines use the stengthened stud wheel.. So that helps a little.

My car came with the original rims, but no spare. I intend to drive my car but also want it to be as close to original as possible. I bought newer radials for my car and found the trunk platform sits higher now.
This is why I'm looking for an original spare.
If I came accross a full set of original tyres I'd look at that too.
Thanks
Arild

Original Tires?

Arild,

When you say you are looking for original tyres, do you mean a set of tyres that actually came on an Alpine or Tiger when it was delivered. A 50+ year old tyre would be totally unsafe to use. If you had one in your trunk, you still would not have a spare tyre - it would not be usable.

Amen

Having driven on banana skins that are bias belted tires with 50 something year old steel rivets pulling together the wheel, I'd be a hazard to navigation:)
Clearly you could weld up the inside centers or stabilize them up but haven't seen a set of 13" bias belted tires either. Dave show a picture of your nice redlines... Nice uncluttered sidewall from Coker?
Maybe get a temp spare and have a vinyl tire cover printed that looks like an old tire ;)

If I had an original good set of tyres I would only use for looks in the shop or a show.
My intent is to actually drive and enjoy the car. I too have cars with repo bias ply tires and know how they follow the ruts in the road. Thats white knuckle driving and I'm too old for that now...

The wheel you should be able to get easily, if you havent got one yet drop rhe user 65sunbeam an email or PM.

Re: tyres, you can get tyres that fit the spare wheel and dont pop the boot false floor.. Maxxis do a whitewall thats a good fit and will look and drive well. Its a Maxxis MA 1 165 80 13 Radial with a 16mm white banded sidewall.
