I need a right inside door release mechanism for a car with GT doors - the part that the handle goes onto. I have two right side parts, but both have a short square shaft for the door handle, and it doesn't protrude through the GT door panels far enough to affix both the door handle and the black plastic escutcheon.

PM me with a price if you have one. I'll be at SUNI also. Thanks.

woody6- I have GT left hand only- I made these some time ago when I needed to repair mine- to repair yours you have to drill the rivets and use a rivet squeezer-to reinstall-- the socket used to drill your new hole for the door handle pin--the new shafts are grade 8 bolts- Never got much interest in these- took a lot of mill time-- also in pic left side are originals--Bryan

Hi Bryan,
Very much appreciated, and I can certainly handle removing and replacing rivets! I'm surprised that you say "left hand only", only because to look at them I would have expected Rootes to make a single part for either side. I'd gladly buy one, but I am missing the right side. Looks like I might be trying to replicate your work.

I do have serveral r/h ones with the short shaft- I can replace the shaft to one of my long remake- shipping will be more because of length of the arm--my l/h is an orginal one- the new ones fit both sides-Bryan

My apologies, I'm with you now! Can I just buy one of your long remake shafts and do the install myself?

Fantastic. I'm in Madison, AL, 35758 - about 30 miles from the AL/TN border. Sounds like a bargain, let me know how you prefer to get paid I'll send you a PM with the address.

Bryan I would very much like both a right and left side with the long shaft.I am in Salt Lake

I have made the longer shafts for the gt interiors- you can remove your shorter shafts and replace with these- I do have some compete door opening rods- but with short shafts-- are you missing some our all parts will have to be re-reveted

Bob- fedex is trying to deliver- being held at station- tracking number is 283564711345

Thanks, Bryan, replacement was a breeze. I used a small file to put a tiny bevel on the edge of the hex, then tapped it into the place of the old one. I also found it easier to release the bottom of the tension spring while riveting the front and back together, then re-hook the spring.

looking good- thx- I'm made these years ago- never once someone asked about these longer shafts- I have a few left- also takes a few hours to make on a bridgeport-- plus Grade 8 bolts in that length of shaft is not cheap-
