Was it White or Black?

Norm verified that my rearend and trans match my VIN. So it was either black and repainted early in life or someone at the factory screwed up and forgot another digit or 2 when punching the paint code. Either way, it's not a stolen/mystery vehicle any longer. It's numbers matching and I am relieved!!!

Maybe next winter when I blow it apart to repaint I can further answer that. Right now I'm just getting it ready to enjoy this summer. BTW, the front brakes work after sitting for 40 years. The rears do not but that is an easy wheel cylinder rebuild. Clutch works, engine runs and starts right up with 50+ lbs of oil pressure. All electrical work except fuel pump, blower, wipers and dash lights. The latter 3 is probably a power connection under dash. I couldn't be happier. I have bought nightmare cars before and this definitely is not.

Pleased to hear about the numbers.

Considering where you found white paint, I'd say someone screwed up at the factory.
Look at the work on the cut throughs and trans tunnel. They weren't mega diligent were they.
