What does this cover plate used for

Does anyone know what this plate is there for It is on the transmission tunnel on the driver’s side you can see the badly corroded trim ring for the shift lever

Correct me if I am wrong but I think its there to service the shifter bushings and or shifter linkage ajustments in the car.

Something unique to the Tiger , I guess the Alpine would not have this cover ?

MY 65 Series V Alpine has a large plug forward of where this cover is to check and add transmission oil if needed. This is on the right side of the trans tunnel or passenger side. Move the carpet or mats out of the way and pick up the tunnel rug to access it.

Tranny shifter access panel to help align the critter if needed . While yer in there use the oil can on everything. Speedo cable is much better accessed from underneath as much as us elder fellas dislike the position.

The alpine has a completely different tunnel

That would make sense because I can imagine it is narrower. Probably a key factor in authenticating a Tiger.
