What is this nut plate for? A Seat Belt

The nut plate is in the upper section of the rear wheel well. It has a hole that goes through the wheel well and is plugged with a plastic screw. Can't find a use for it on my Tiger or Alpine. Looked at a few other tigers and it's not used on those either.

I just pulled it off one side as it had rust behind it. Wondering if I need to weld it back on now that I've repaired the well?

Thanks,
David

Seat Belts

Is it for the shoulder strap for 3 point seat belts. The plastic screw is just to keep the threads clean until you install a 3 point seat belt and use a steel screw.

I guess that makes sense. I've yet to see an alpine or tiger with a shoulder belt unless it has a roll bar.

I know that 60's era seat belts I'm familiar with were not retractable. You had to unbuckled them to adjust the radio. Not sure I'd want one in a tiger without a roll bar.

I have installed the 3 point set up this year for the first time. There is a nice tech tip on how to install them on the www.Tigersunited.com website. Pretty straight forward. But the site is a great one for a lot of information if you are not familiar with it.

You can buy the non-self-adjusting kind from Sunbeam Specialties and both the the non-self-adjusting and self-adjusting kind from Victoria British. I will be using the non-self-adjusting kind from SS. SS has theirs only in black, VB has black or colors.

I want to be at least a little more stable in the seat during my occasional auto-crossing and have been told they do help. Don't have a roll bar or harness and the rear shelf area has an Alpine seat pad and seatbelts for the grandkids.

Candidly, I was also inspired to add them by a picture Randy (Oneoffive) posted in another thread. It showed what happened once upon a time to his steering wheel when he and it collided in an accident. No picture of how Randy looked afterward, but the point is well made without it.

In my cars i have used "BEAM" belts from JC Whitney. Apart from being called beam with is nice.. they are period style chrome buckle belts, they are 3 point and come ina range of colours. I have black in the Alpine SII, Red in Dad's SIVGT and i am putting the light grey ones in the Silver tiger.. not just because of the colour.. but they look close to the original optional Irvin belts... when i bought my original ones in 2004 they only had black... great variety now.. and great price!
