what to save for posterity

When I disassembled my tiger I saved everything, interior panels, engine parts, suspension etc. Most parts have been replaced with new, so what's worth saving? I can see saving the original interior and trim, but what about the replaced engine parts?

original flywheel - yes?
original pistons - no?
original rods - no?
original manifold and carb - yes?
original heads - yes?
original valve covers - yes
original oil pan - no?

Thoughts?

Plans?

Decisions on some parts may depend on our intended use & future plans.
Keep forever as stock or personalized?
Keep for some time, then sell or trade?
Did you keep it stock with replacement parts, or are these parts that you or others may re-install?

Some of the parts that you list may actually be of interest/use by others. Even original pistons & rods may be sought by someone trying to create an all original experience.

If you expect to sell, the new owner may be interested in the orig parts.
Do you have space to store parts and/or a sig other who may have an opinion?

No real advice, just questions.
 
oiginal flywheel - yes? 157 tooth is it?
original pistons - Useable yes
original rods - Useable yes
original manifold and carb - yes?
original heads - yes? Even though you'd have to spend $ to change rocker studs etc. maybe the next guy will want to do that.
original valve covers - yes
original oil pan - no? Especially trash if really dented..

Get out the crystal ball and look in the future and hopefully see who will be the next caretaker and if he'll give a dollar more for the item then it'll cost you to trip over it or store it.
 
I absolutely save everything until I finally decide that;

"Yes this is officially trash, I can now throw it away."

Then 6 months later someone really wants one, or you see it on eBay selling for some ridiculous price in much worse shape. :D

But overall, most everything you mentioned, someone most likely wants.

I like the OEM rods with the Pee holes in them. We bush the pin end for free float application.
