wind noise

With new windshield rubber including the A-Post, wind noise is still pretty loud at highway speeds. The hardtop has the outer seal, but I seem to remember that the soft top header had an inner seal too. Maybe I am not remembering that correctly. Could the hardtop also use an inner seal at the top of the windshield?

I don't run a hardtop or soft top but I knew I heard a wind noise---bet it's that darn rubber. haha

noise

there is a difference between the front hard top seal and the soft top seal. we tried to fit the soft top seal to the hard top and it would not fit. we could not get the hard top to snap on the windshield using the soft top seal.

I was just wondering if anyone else had come up with a way to cut down on the noise level at highway speeds. It is hard to tell but it seems that most of the noise is coming from the top of the windshield. The 1200 rpm drop in 5th gear cuts down engine sound, but then the wind noise picks up.

I changed out the hardtop seal and the new is much noiser. Never compared side to side but I think the front face is narrower or is positioned up higher than the original and allows air up under the front edge.

Where did you get the new noisy one? Maybe there is another source that is either cut differently or of a different rubber.

At the time upon inspection to determine the new added noise it appeared the top to bottom width of seal wasn't as great as previous. In fact there were places I could see where the screen trim turned back around the top corner of screen.

The previous seal as I recalled seemed to be just a tad thicker and wider. In fact whenever the top goes on the passenger side end of trim always turns under and I have to carefully slip a flat edge between seal and trim and then lift up and draw towards me the last foot of seal to pull it out of gap but a slight gap still remains at very end.

After many hand car washes you learn the places where not to point the hose.

As to source? Won't be much help there as this replacement was nearly 30 years ago and I don't recall either.
