Wrapping wires

In my quest to tidy up my engine bay on my newly acquired Mk1 tiger, I have removed the plastic sleeve/tube things previously used to cover the wires under the hood. What should be used instead? Seems like there should be some period-looking wrap to use.... ??

You can get plastic wrap that forms a water proof seal it acts like a vucanising wrap. Looks good and keeps the moisture away.
 
I have heard one should use something called dry vinyl tape. It is non-adhesive but somehow sticks to itself. You might want to give this Elliott tape, available on ebay, a try. Item number: 120888950760. (No affiliation) Price certainly seems reasonable. I have not used it myself. If you do try it, let us know how well it works!:D

I certainly would expect great things from a 3-M product in general. But that is a cloth based tape. Kind of reminds me of friction tape. I just looked again at my own engine bay, and confirmed the original wire wrap is the more shiny vinyl type tape. So for the OEM look I would be trying the Elliott tape, or equivalent.

It could be that the mass merchant auto supply stores like Autozone, etc. carry this stuff. It may be worth a call to some of them to see if there is something in stock closer to home. Of course they may not know what dry vinyl tape is and try to sell you the spiral wrap stuff. :)

I just ordered 2 rolls of the Elloitt tape. I'll report back once it's here. :)
